Emerald Queen 748 on a (very short) "27 nm" flight...

Featured Replies

Once, during a visit to the Boeing Factory, in Everett, Washington, as I was standing outside in the courtyard, I caught sight of several Southwest planes lifting off from a nearby Runway which belongs to the Seattle Paine Field International Airport (KPAE), also known as just Paine Field. Connecting the Boeing plant, there is a "road" (or "bridge") which is actually a taxi-lane, to the Paine Field's "Boeing Ramp" where final preparations are completed before the aircraft are flown off to wherever they're going (e.g., the SWA planes could be heading to the airline's headquarters, located on the grounds of Dallas Love field, in Dallas). The Paine Field Airport also plays a critical role as a Testing Center for all kinds of (narrow and widebody) Boeing a/c.

For international customers' long-haul airliners (such as a 777 or a 787 or a 748), it's possible that the airplane might first make a short flight from (KPAE) Paine Field south to (KSEA) Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (also known as just Sea–Tac), and then fully loaded with fuel (but no pax) for their maiden intercontinental (delivery) flight.

The distance between KPAE and KSEA is only 27 nms (or 32 miles). Looking up, for a FlightPlan on FlightAware, between KPAE and KSEA, I found a SWA 737-700 a/c, today, that took off northward from Paine Field (KPAE 34L), made an immediate U-turn to south (see e.g., my ND Route MAP on the ground, shot #2), and then the 737 has tracked the 30 miles over Airway (V23) between PAE and SEA VORs (actual flight distance recorded is 45 miles; and cruise altitude is 4,000 ft). So, here we go, my 747-8 Intercontinental (its Emerald colors shining in the sunlight), on the same route, for this 30 miles takeoff-to-touchdown, hypothetical (early morning) delivery flight...🙂... I've engaged "LNAV" for this (extremely short) flight, but no "VNAV", controlling the altitude manually for descent into KSEA Rwy 16L.

Please find 11 pictures, below, from my flight. Thanks for viewing and hope you enjoy.

You are on a roll...with rapid fire releases of captivating (and informative) screenshot posts. Don't know where you find the time, given all the research that goes into them. 🙂 Your "conversion" to MSFS/Xbox is delighting us all.

Really liking that soft hazy glare you've captured in the first shot.

Thank you, John. I couldn't have said it better 🙂🙂

Any attempt to stretch fuel is guaranteed to increase headwinds

My specs: AMD Radeon RX6700XT, AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 32GB RAM, 34" monitor, screen resolution: 2560x1080

Super shots! 😉

Thanks. ...🙂...Early excitement of a new and novel SIM, John, but as you see my 747-8 Intercontinental is not going the 9,000 miles full range, but only "30 miles" here...due to obvious reasons...🙂...
