November 25, 20232 yr A few of the the aircraft have autopilots that are just beyond me. Today I thought I'd try one, just setting up a flightplan to go direct from LA to Seattle. It wasn't until I was in the air that I noticed there was no plan loaded in the display, so I couldn't even hope to get it to follow the pink line. It was only then that I remembered that...I never used to follow a pink line, just flew using the VORs to get me from place to place. I did that and got to my destination, although the controls are a bit odd, resulting in a bonejarring-but-survival thump when landing.
November 26, 20232 yr That’s what keeps it fun. Scrap the GPS and fly with needles. Very glad the black square planes, Milviz 310 and others allow that. Now that winter is on its way in the northern hemisphere, I think many fun and satisfying flights are inbound. November 26, 20232 yr Can't get enough of the DC-3. VOR to VOR it is (with an occasional NDB) and it's great fun flying around. Winter with it's bad weather makes flying over the Alps quite challenging. Approach to rwy 26 in Innsbruck comes to mind...
