December 11, 20232 yr Hi JanKees, looking at the photos the sqaudron code (DW) is shown under the cockpit so the front of the aircraft. It's caught me out a few times painting the Spit.
December 30, 20232 yr Disregard JanKees, Looking at my other repaints and photo's on the net, it seems that different squadrons had different "rules" as far as squadron codes were concerned. Just about any combination that you can think of were applied.
December 30, 20232 yr Author sometimes even within squadrons, the codes were applied differently. Look at these two from No.222 squadron: 222sqn (0014) by JanKees Blom, on Flickr MH415 ZD-E and MH434 ZD-B on one side... 222sqn (0005) by JanKees Blom, on Flickr ZD-E and B-ZD on the other side. OK, these are my paints, but that is what they looked like, and still, or once again, do, as both are still airworthy and flying in the UK. All my FSX/P3D repaints are here on Avsim, for my MSFS repaints, go to FS.2
