December 25, 20232 yr Goodmorning. Merry Christmas. I need some advice. I can't decide between the 4080 and 7900 XTX for my new build. The 4080 is 200 euro more, but need some more psu power too. I'm going to use my QLED 75 inch 4K. So i'm a bit worried about the VRAM. Although I play also other games where raytracing is better and the 4080 is more power efficient. I'm pairing it with a 7800X3D. Already ordered the 4080, but it hasn't shipped yet so I can still swap it for the 7900 XTX. Thanks AMD 7800X3D, 64GB 6000MHz CL30, INNO3D RTX 4080, Windows 11.
December 25, 20232 yr Last winter I bought the 7900XT (20gig) as the XTX (24gig) were sold out. I have it paired with the 7800x3d plus 32 gig of 6000 ram and multiple M.2 drives. My monitor is a 34" dell UltraSharp running at its full resolution. I am very pleased with this combination. It handles whatever I throw at it. Your mileage may vary. Also, I have no doubt I will get years out of this computer from a future proof point of view.

Do you use AMD AMFM? If so, how is it? AMD GPU looks more value for money, but for MSFS FSR 3 isn't implemented yet and I see that DLSS + FG performs well. RTX 3090 vs RTX 4080 - Test in 10 Games | 4K (youtube.com) MSFS wasn't tested in this video, so I'd be cautious in drawing conclusions regarding MSFS. MSFS is known to be more VRAM hungry than most games, especially when using heavy add-on scenery and DX12, and if I remember correctly, some 4080 owners here on AVSIM did have to slightly reduce some VRAM related settings when using demanding scenery add-ons. Additional VRAM doesn't improve performance as long as there's enough available. But once you push it beyond its limits, stutters hit hard. In the specific case of MSFS, I'd argue that VRAM beyond 16GB isn't wasted, at least for advanced users with lots of add-ons. On a different note, I too look forward to seeing what Nvidia is going to present on Monday. Not sure I believe the rumours of a price for the 4080 Super in the sub $1,000 range, but if it happens, this could lead to a welcome price drop for various other cards too.
