Still living in the past, this time in LA

Featured Replies

Happy new year everybody! 1936 at last!

Redwing haven't released their KLAX as yet, but I thought I'd see what they'd done with the cityscape in their base USA 1935 package. I haven't done side-by-side comparisons for the main areas, but this does feel suitably amended in general. I have a few books here on LA over the years so I'll check those out and see.

This shouldn't be here, I believe. I went looking to see what Chavez Ravine would look like, but Dodger Stadium is still here in this scenery although it didn't arrive for real until the '60s. Maybe some of this stuff will change when KLAX comes out.

But the Griffith Observatory was opened in 1935, so that's valid

I grabbed this shot, and then wondered what the view would be like from that house at the top of the hill just below the rear wheel

So I went down to take a look. Quite a pleasant front driveway!

Thanks Ed. I'll bet that was fun - I'm envious.

Not a dramatic change but interesting if you know what to look for. Wish they could roll it back another 20 years or so and we'd have more orange groves. I have a book, "Los Angeles Aeronautics 1920-1929." It's a pictorial compilation and shows much more open space surrounding the many grass airfields.

Fine set Andy !

cheers 😉
