January 26, 20242 yr In my previous Cargolux 748 (freighter) post, I'd remarked that I'd chosen "Düsseldorf" Airport as the destination of that (fictional) flight, because it reminded me of my one transit through EDDL, from a decade or so ago. That was the only time I was routed by LH, on a smaller a/c, an A320 it was, from Düsseldorf to Frankfurt, before boarding the LH 747-8I for the trans-Atlantic hop. The year was likely 2012 (winter), I'm told (today) by my better-half, since I personally do not recall the year at all...🙂...That however makes sense, because LH had introduced the 748I into service on June 1, 2012. In fact, during that flight, I'd (initially) failed to even notice until after been seated, and having looked through the seatback pamphlet...that the a/c was not a 747-400, but actually a 747-8I (after all, they each have 4 engines...🙂...) ... So, here, I fly (and reminisce) that LH A320 flight, from Düsseldorf (EDDL) to Frankfurt (EDDF). BTW, for non-natives, like I am, EDDF is called (Frankfurt am Main), and for a long time I'd (mistakenly) thought that "Main" means the main (aka: primary) airport of Germany, but actually the "Main" in the name refers to the fact that the city is located on the river "Main". You can spot this river in my final approach shot, below. Rivers never seem to leave me, whether I look for them or not...🙂...So, you'll also spot, right after lift-off from Düsseldorf, another river, Rhine, in my shots below. In fact, the Wiki does say that the Frankfurt Airport (EDDF), is also known as "Rhein-Main-Flughafen" after the two main (oh boy...another "main"...) rivers of the region. One note of importance for (livery) enthusiasts...it's well-known that, in 2018, Lufthansa changed its livery, for better or worse (depends on who are asking...🙂...), from the classic yellow/blue tail (with the blue Crane on a yellow circle), to the new blue tail, with, now, the white crane on a blue circle separated from the background by a white outline...Oh well...they say a picture is worth a thousand words.... indeed, if you wish, please compare the logos in my pictures of the A320 livery with that of the single image of the B747-8 (in my very last shot, below). So, in 2012, the LH A320 would have been in the traditional yellow/blue livery, not in the livery I've shown here, but that's the one I can find to fly today. On the other hand, the only Lufthansa 748, I've at my disposal now, which I've shown in my last image below, is in the traditional yellow/blue colors...which would be the correct livery for late 2012. Anyway, I hope you enjoy my sample of these (memory-seeking) pictures of the LH A320neo below...with lots of (MSFS) evening glow...🙂...on a very short (~150 miles) flight from Düsseldorf to Frankfurt (I noticed on FlightAware, an actual A320neo (DUS-FRA) flight (LH77/DLH77) today, Jan. 25, showing a trip distance of 160 miles and an almost direct routing between the 2 cities). And, in the last image below, as you can see, the (bigger) 747-8I is already waiting at the gate, to transport me across the Atlantic...So, now, need to look for the Gate number...and then be ready for some frozen/thawed airline dinner along with a German brew...and... go to sleep...🙂... Thanks for viewing...!

I worked at EDDL for a number of years and at one time it was know as the "Rhein-Ruhr Flughafen"... Appreciated the note...so, you obviously know EDDL lot better than what I recall...I do recall extreme security at both EDDL/EDDF for international passengers...for obviously good reasons of the times...I think on one occasion they verified my passport 3 times at 3 checkpoints within the airport ... didn't mind...🙂...EDDL does have direct long-hauls to KJFK and KLAX...I believe...but I wished to take the flight from Frankfurt to KORD.... And, yes, you're right, I do see references now in the EDDL Wiki, to the Ruhr River....and the airport is noted as serving the Rhine-Ruhr region...Cheers...!
