Does the SDK have to be installed?

Featured Replies

Just re-installed v5.3 over the weekend, sitting here at work now and only just realised that I did not install the SDK for the sim.

Is it required? Do I have to install it - by that I mean will certain add-ons not work if it isn't installed?

Everything to do with the re-install has gone fairly smoothly - multiple PMDG planes, multiple ORBX sceneries and airports, AIG AI, Active Sky etc. - everything has worked except GSX. I cannot get the menu to appear in sim by pressing the usual CTRL+ F12 or via the menu, just covering bases and wondering if that may have anything to do with the SDK not being present.

Cheers.

I have always installed the appropriate version ...... though mainly to manage aircraft & scenery editing with the likes of ADE, MConX etc.

& there is a wealth of info on P3D workings if you are a "tweaker".

for now, cheers

If you use add-ons that communicate with the sim via Simconnect--and that's a whole bunch of different add-ons--you'll want the P3D-specific SDK installed for reliable operation, as well as all of the legacy FSX Simconnect side-by-side libraries, which means you also need to install all of the SDKs--FSX RTM, FSX SP1 and FSX SP2/Acceleration versions in order.

Some of those may still be present from your previous install--but I would advise reinstalling all of them just to cover all the bases.

I used to play around with ADE (or something similar) in the FS9 days, leave it to the professionals now though hahaha
