I recently spoke with someone that successfully installed PMDG aircraft into V6 by, "Move and overwrite p3d.5 files to p3d6 then reinstall again p3d6...done !!"

Which makes little sense. What files, copy where etcetera?

I looked on P3D and the only legacy files available are the last release. Nothing prior to V6.

Any ideas?

If you have purchased previous versions, you can logon to the download site with the credentials you received for that version and download them.  I know this because I've actually done it.

"Legacy" versions only means earlier revisions of your version of P3D.
If you paid for P3D v6, it does not entitle you to P3D v5, v4, v3, v2 and v1.

Your contact's installation instructions are indeed not intelligible.
