Bora Bora calling back...in a Cessna Longitude...

Featured Replies

The unforgettable memories of Bora Bora Islands do not fade that easily (please see my previous post...). However, the fact that I had magically transported my Cessna 172 into the island, rather than being a bit closer to reality by arriving there in the style of Rich and Famous in one of the luxury jet transports...🙂...that normally frequent that airport (see below), I've set up a complete trip, here, originating from one of the other (and bigger) islands, Hawaii. So, I depart from Honolulu (PHNL), in the North Pacific Ocean, to the tiny island of Bora Bora and its airport (NTTB) in the South Pacific Ocean, across a distance of about 2,600 miles, over the (seemingly endless) blue waters of the Pacific Ocean (see images), as the daylight fades around me...

Bora Bora (NTTB) airport has a Runway of 4,900 ft length, which, for practical purposes, rules out the B737 and A320 types. Actually, there is no passenger jet service of any kind to this island. The BizJets that are listed to be visitors of this island are the following (with their landing distances noted):

  1. Bombardier Global Express - 2,200 ft
  2. Dassault Falcon 900 - 2,400 ft
  3. Gulfstream V - 2,500 ft

Now, for this flight, I've opted to deploy my own personal (and preferred) Business Transport...🙂... from the MSFS virtual hangar, the Cessna Citation Longitude, the largest of Cessna's business jets, in the opposite extreme of the C172 Skyhawk from the same maker, that I'd used on the island, during my last visit. The Cessna Longitude is listed to have a landing distance of 3,100 ft (well within the length of the runway at Bora Bora Airport).

So, here we go, please find 20 pictures of my flight from PHNL to NTTB, across the Pacific Ocean, finishing with a (smooth but challenging...🙂...) touchdown using the RNAV Approach (there are no ILS Approaches for NTTB) into Bora Bora Island with its speck of an airport in the vast Pacific Ocean, while my a/c is enveloped in complete darkness, since the sun has already gone down a long time ago. The Longitude did not fail me for the (final) landing phase. After tracking to the IAF, and activation of the RNAV Y Rwy 11 approach in the FlightPlan, it efficiently and competently guided me down the Glide Path, right to the threshold of Bora Bora airports' runway (see images) ...as I breathed a sigh of relief on successfully completing my 2,600 miles journey to this exotic island.... (Succumbing here to a bit more than typical dose of virtual aviator's imaginary dreams...🙂...Oh well...)

My last 2 images, below, herald the arrival of the next day morning in the airport. So, it's time now to visit first my two favorite twin-peaks...Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu, that had left such a lasting impression on me from my last visit...

Thanks for viewing...!

Wonderful journey, P_7878, flying in style with the bubbly properly chilled. One thing on that journey was a bit strange though: halfway down the trip you seem to have lost your registration. The good thing is that once you are back on terra firma, you got it back 😄

Sorry, my friend, I couldn't help mentioning this.

Any attempt to stretch fuel is guaranteed to increase headwinds

My specs: AMD Radeon RX6700XT, AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 32GB RAM, 34" monitor, screen resolution: 2560x1080

Great set and nice shots of the plane. Like the second last shot at night and through the gear of the aircraft, good exposure there.

There is also a nice stock Citation in XP12 which works very well, has no Garmin glasscockpit but steam gauges.

PC: Ryzen 7 3700x AM4, 16 GB RAM, RTX 3060 12GB, Storage SSD 3TB, HDD 8TB, USB 8TB, 2 Screens, Win10-64

SIMs: FSX SE, P3d 3.4/4.5/6.1, Xplane 10/11/12, MSFS 2020/24, Aerofly FS 4

Very nice shots! 😉

Fine set,  thanks for showing !

cheers 😉

...🙂...You've got sharp eyes...bernd...🙂...indeed, it looks like while I was busy admiring the golden twilight glow, I didn't even realize that my Reg. ID on the a/c has disappeared...for a few images there.... will have to look into it...could it be just for this newly added repaint interacting with my xbox image saving process...Very strange...I had never seen it before...

Thanks for the comment and pointing out this anomaly...!
