Hey,

Round trip KTM/LUA with the Twin Otter. A rather pleasant flight of less than an hour. I would have thought the worst for this approach but in the end i came out well.

So ready to climb Everest? 😂

A lively (and lovely) set of pictures out of Lukla...Will...Thanks for sharing...!

BTW, I recall it was a Tara Air a/c (I forget - Dornier or Twin Otter) that would have taken me from Kathmandu to Lukla, but the flight was cancelled due to bad weather at the destination. The airport was yet to be re-named and was still called "Lukla Airport" at that time ...

Fine set buddy, seems like you experience new types of flights that we rarely see from you..

cheers 😉

Fantastic shots, Will. First time I see you not flying the 737 🙂

Any attempt to stretch fuel is guaranteed to increase headwinds

Welcome! Thank you for comment! 😉

You would be crazy to fly in bad weather even if the pilots have experience. Besides, i read that captains must undergo special training, including at least 100 short takeoffs and landings, one year of experience in Nepal in such conditions and 10 successful flights in Lukla with a certified instructor. Yeah, airport was re-named in 2008. Airport is named in honor of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, the first men to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Sir Edmund Hillary himself helped build it, and it's one of the few in the world where you might see yaks roaming the track as they are used to transport goods!

What summit did you do? K2?

Many thanks Bernd! 😉

I plan to fly my DC6 again in the coming days.

Great set of shots, and I lift my virtual hat for all who can land there (even virtual).

Interesting clothing of the girls, neglecting the snowy conditions. And I love the ground crew in picture #2!

Cheers, Gerold

I didn't have this problem with my eagle eyesight. Aerosoft should have cleared snow from the runway so that it was more visible. In any case, the runway is not snowy in RW. 🙂

Thanks for adding that Lukla Approach shot...Will.

Lukla I never saw, but Kathmandu I recall well from that one (short) visit ...You're right about special pilot requirements...Kudos to those Nepalese Pilots who do it on routine basis. The Tara Air flight was actually cancelled in the last minute...who knows the cancellation might have saved my life...so no regrets...

Didn't do K2...🙂...I explored the foothills around there (which can easily reach thousands of feet) with the help of a native, who pointed me out the massive range of the mountains and the peaks from the distance. Isn't it unthinkable that over 30 peaks are there that reach beyond 25,000 ft ...A memorable visit which I would never forget...

No problem!

That's wonderful! I prefer to see them with my own eyes but not climb them. 😉
