CTD during descent - with any plane, anywhere in the world

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I have this really odd problem that every flight I do I experience a crash to desktop when descending. Sometimes it's around FL240, sometimes FL180, sometimes lower.

This happens even over open water, when there is no add-on scenery visible (for instance just now, flying London-Antigua, starting descent from FL380, totally over the Atlantic, and CTD at around FL220).

I have ORBX Vector and ORBX Global installed, and often use payware add-on airports. But I find it hard to believe that EVERY payware airport causes the crash, and ORBX Vector and Global should not be the issue when flying over open water.

Where can I look for issues? What could it be that triggers a CTD only during descent?

Thanks.

Chris

@mozart, what’s the report in Event Viewer say? What version of P3D? Do you have AIG Ai installed?

Thanks for the quick replies.

Using P3D v5.4.9.28482, that should be the latest version of v5.4.

I am not using any AI Traffic addon, just self-installed AI. Which has not caused any problems ever. I understand that a particular plane/texture could cause such a problem, but why would that be a problem only during descent?

I am also using GSX. De- and reinstalled now to see if that makes a difference.

@Ray, where can I find the event viewer?

Thanks,

Chris

Chris, right click on the Start / Home icon and select Event Viewer. Select the top option in the left window. In the right one you’re looking for Errors and anything associated with P3D.

With problem solving of this type you have to reduce the sim to default. You should disable Vector since v5 has made it superfluous. Try a default aircraft too. Make only one change at a time and test again. I’d also disable your addon Ai. I had freeze problems with 5.4 and AIG that were eliminated by reverting to 5.3HF2.

Try removing the P3D config file in the main folder/

C>user > your name> AppData > Roaming > Lockheed Martin > Prepar3Dv5

And >Local > Lockheed Martin > Prepar3Dv5  Delete the Shaders Folder, start the sim and it will rebuild the config file and the shaders folder. You will then be on default settings this will not remove any addons but try a default aircraft to test.
