May 26, 20242 yr I thought I was going mad. I loaded a flightplan created using LNM and although I had selected runway 21 for the departure, when msfs loaded the flight plan the start runway was 03 - at the opposite end. I checked and rechecked and also opened the .pln file and there it was <DeparturePosition>21</DeparturePosition> . So why was MSFS starting me at 03? After some time or trying this and that I remembered that before I first loaded the flightplan I had loaded a different flightplan (same departure airport) which had runway 03 as the departure. I exited MSFS and restarted and loaded the flightplan with departure runway 21 and voila it started at runway 21. All I can think of is that there is a BUG in MSFS causing it to 'remember' the departure runway of an earlier flight plan and continued to use it regardless of the departure runway of the newly loaded flightplan. YES I realise that flights normally start at a parking location but I am trying to learn navigation not taxiing at an airport so a runway start is faster to get going. Anyone's thoughts? May 26, 20242 yr Author I have no idea what wind direction. Weather was set to 'live' however if it was the wind direction it must have changed significantly in the time it took me to exit MSFS, restart MSFS and load the other flightplan. Well it doesn't end there. I have two flight plans with the same departure airport one with the start rwy 03 and the other with start rwy 21. When I load the first one MSFS starts me on rwy 21 (not 03) and when I load the other one MSFS starts me on rwy 03 (not 21). Also weather and wind is set to disabled in LNM. It's wacky to say the least. May 26, 20242 yr Author I just did the exercise without exiting MSFS. Load flight plan 1 with departure runway 03 MSFS starts on 21 Load flight plan 2 with departure runway 21, MSFS starts on 03 And every other flight plan I have created MSFS starts on the opposite rwy than what is in the flight plan. May 26, 20242 yr Don't waste your time. Software bugs can appear randomly and can change when resetting or restarting the software. I produced a few of those myself.🙃 I'd just change the runway after loading in the dropdown box. Or create the plan in MSFS, export it as PLN and load it into LNM for flight following. MSFS flight plan loading is buggy. Always was.🤷♂️ Alex Alex' Projects: Little Navmap
May 26, 20242 yr Author Thanks Alex I am not worrying about it but this seems to have only happened since the lastest update I wanted to be assured that the problem was a bug and not the way I was using it (and alerting reader to what seemed like a problem). I realise that most people will probably have flight plans from a parking bay but it still is annoying. I read with interest recently that someone considers X-Plane to be more for professionals than MSFS although I once had a flight simulator experience at an airport with a full on 737 cockpit (exactly like a real one) and it was run by none other than FSX (yes pre MSFS). Now having said that I own a copy of X-Plane and used it for some time until MSFS was released and I cannot ever remember it having bugs. I loaded my flight plan then changed to departure runway to the correct runway and noted that the green 'dot' denoting the departure runway changed from 21 to 03, then I saved the flightplan and then reopened it and noted that there was a green dot at BOTH runways. How on earth can you depart from two different runways? This is plain (sorry for the pun) aweful! https://mega.nz/file/xblwEBQR#JfS239FBTPU0fcIUD9ERajUgM0ZgigDlZ1d6X6oYE_Y Regards John Gigabyte Z390 m/b, i7 9700K cpu, 16Gb Hyper X Fury 3200 ram, RTX2060 6Gb, Gigabyte 32" monitor, MSFS 2020 store edition

X-Plane 11 is very stable (and also reliable when loading flight plans) and X-Plane 12 is slowly becoming a usable simulator with the 12.1 updates. 12 hours ago, Jarnie said: I loaded my flight plan then changed to departure runway to the correct runway and noted that the green 'dot' denoting the departure runway changed from 21 to 03, then I saved the flightplan and then reopened it and noted that there was a green dot at BOTH runways. Meh.☹️ Do you intentionally use the same airport as destination and departure? LNM can digest such plans but MSFS not. Alex Alex' Projects: Little Navmap
May 27, 20242 yr Author Hi Alex 7 hours ago, albar965 said: Do you intentionally use the same airport as destination and departure? Not really. I love the scenery there (I has actually visited there) and also being on a Mesa and ringed on the east side with mountains it makes a good approach for runway 21. To keep flights short for practice, for approach practice, I should depart from a nearby airport such as Williams (Arizona) although I bet the same problems will exist from there. At least I can manually change the departure runway but just annoying. I also like Sechelt BC Canada and of course many country airports and bush strips in Australia. I did like X-Plane heaps but didn't think there was as much aircraft and scenery addons as I expected MSFS to have and also could not work out how to create scenery and scenery objects myself for X-Plane (I see a few video tutorials which only seem to have appears since MSFS was released). Maybe after an absence of 4 years I should 'revisit' X-Plane. John Regards John Gigabyte Z390 m/b, i7 9700K cpu, 16Gb Hyper X Fury 3200 ram, RTX2060 6Gb, Gigabyte 32" monitor, MSFS 2020 store edition
