ALIA 250 (VTOL) Landing

I've only just discovered this aircraft in X-Plane 12 (2 years late) and have been flying around getting used to how this aircraft handles, how to take off, etc.. I also watched Austin's video and it's an incredibly impressive aircraft, however how do you actually land this thing correctly? (After Austin left us hanging in the video)

Much like a helicopter. Kill the pusher engine and start the lift engines, pitch up to slow while lowering power to the lift engines to maintain altitude. Once slowed enough, lower and control lift engine power to descend.

It's a good helicopter training vehicle as you do not have to worry about rotor torque.

It's fun to put it on a steep slope (15-20deg incline) and watch the 4 rotors auto modulate as it targets maintaining level flight right after liftoff.

I'm not yet sure how I feel about not using rudder pedals. It's kind of like driving a manual transmission for a day when you normally drive a clutch.

Is there a way to swap the PFD screens? Sometimes the battery/rotor RPM shows up on copilot side. As far as I can see, the only way to swap them is cycle system power.

You mean automatic vs manual?

No, there is not. Engine data on the primary is just a backup for when the secondary X1000 is inoperable for some reason (power, broken, not booted).

ah heh heh. Yeah, that's what I meant.

That's the trick I've been using then. Cycle power and then don't touch the secondary.
