June 15, 20241 yr Gosh. After a decent run of error-free VR simming, it seems like MSFS has been throwing everything at me in the past week. Anyone else got the problem that after every full sim shutdown, the VR graphics settings, even after very carefully 'Applying and Saving', nevertheless revert to default? I can hold the settings over multiple flights in a single session, but once I actually shut down (and yes, in the correct way) I find that at the next boot up it's all back to default. Any ideas? Just did another flight this evening, and MSFS loaded up just fine, with all my settings. Is your MSFS installation in the default location? If so, I wonder if you have a write permission issue. The default location, are Windows protected folders if I recall. Try running MSFS as administrator and see if your save settings remain. Why it would change, I'm not sure - I've used VR only on the sim since it was introduced. But yes, I'll try that and report back. Thanks for the suggestion. June 17, 20241 yr Author Well, getting nowhere with this. So far, I've: - checked the permissions on the Usercfg, opt file. All good. No change. - turned off all of the batch file stuff relating to, eg, Pilot2ATC. No change - tried the Repair option through the X-box app. No change - tried saving the amended VR profile using the keyboard - no change - and the mouse - no change. - Reset the MSFS cloud settings per Microsoft MSFS FAQ. Went through all of the 'set up everything from scratch' stuff. Knowingly lost all my logbook and HOTAS profiles (the former no problem, the latter is a 'major inconvenience' with around 20 Honeycomb profiles wiped...but worth it if it would save the VR settings). No change. As I've lost all the Honeycomb settings anyway, then I may as well do a full delete and reload of the sim - and for good measure will probably put onto a different drive. I no longer have the confidence whatsoever that even this extreme action will solve it... Just before I do that, though, can someone remind me the files that, in the early days, were required to be deleted at/or after an update and would self regenerate at next boot up? Can't help feeling that there is some spurious info hanging about somewhere! Well - I'm delighted to say that this has resolved the issue The sim is now, at last, holding my VR settings. Just got to re-load all the rest of the stuff now but that's a small price to pay. The cause of the original issue remains a mystery but it's time to get back to flying! Thanks, as always, for the input and suggestions, folks. BUT it is now finally all sorted. Even though I had completely uninstalled MSFS before I started the re-installation AND the X-box App asked me which drive I wanted as part of the install process (E: was my preference) AND it confirmed it was loading on the E drive AND after the 4+ hours download it ran OK from the E drive, albeit stuttery (which I thought was just a case of re-establishing the myriad of settings) AND there was a MSFS2020 folder on my E drive - well, actually, it wasn't entirely on my E drive. In fact, only 20Gb was on my E:drive! The other 100Gb+ was on the C drive. No wonder it was stuttering... So I uninstalled it all again and this time let Xbox/microsoft/asobo decide entirely by themselves which drive they preferred me to start with. And yes, they preferred the C drive. And this time the download didn't go walkabout. And so, another 4 hours later, it booted up OK No stutters VR settings saved OK Another 3 hours later, I have reloaded all of the community and marketplace stuff and it still works AND my multiplayer aircraft identity issue - that has bugged me over 6 sim updates and even followed me onto a previous full re-install - is FIXED!! So all is finally good again in the AJZip world - in spite of all of Microsoft's help😉 Ryzen 7 9800x3D @5.2GHz; ASUS X670-P Motherboard; nVidia 4080 (factory o/c); 32G 5600MHz DDR5 SDRAM; Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset; Quest 3 VR Headset
