MCE with Say Intentions

Featured Replies

What are the best settings to use these together. I don't need MCE doing any ATC, I like doing it myself. MCE tends to stop after a while and nothing I do will get it going again. Has anybody got these working together.  BTW Say Intentions is great..

Enable "talk to ATC controllers" feature in MCE "general" tab.

Assign a PTT as if you're going to use it with MCE for ATC.

Then go to "ATC tab in UI and click the '+' arrow as many times as needed to get to <Other ATC>

Click <Activate> and restart MCE. From then on, when you hold PTT button down, MCE will assume you're talking to some other ATC system, Vatsim Pilot2ATC or other and will suspend all MCE speech reco until you release the button.

This works well.. I was wondering if there is any chance to introduce PTT for MCE FO, I know there is a way to "turn off speech" which I use now.. sometimes I have some voices (GSX etc..) coming out of speakers not headphones and MCE picks it up and thinks I am talking to him (annoying) so "turn off speech" works OK, but PTT for MCE would be so much better as it only takes ONE PTT say your command.. vs 'unMute" say command "Mute" and hope he doesn't pick up something in mean while...

As much as we have liked to offer the PTT option to communicate with the FO, in practice it doesn't work.

We tried it in early days when 2 core CPUs were a luxury, the aim beeing to only enable speech reco when needed thus reducing the load on CPU. The problem when you do that is that you would need to constantly enabled/disable speech contexts and after doing that hundreds of times, there is a risk you will leave the speech engine in an unconstsent state and perhaps need to restart MCE.

But more importantly, you'll have to be self conscious and not be tempted to speak immediately, but rather wait for an audio tone that signals MCE has finished updating speech engine with what it needs. It may only be a third or half a second, but it's enough to cause frustration, especially when you get angry.

Case in point, the confirmation commands which are dynamically enabled/disabled and you wondering why you have to repeat.

Same for those using MCE with Native ATC. Because ATC commands are only enabled when PTT is down (and those for FO interaction are disabled), it's not uncommon for someone to be frustrated at needing to repeat the ATC message. Why? Because he started transmitting when the system wasn't ready to take ATC specific speech and that';s why we have that humming background noise when holdding PTT. In extreme cases, on very old machines, it could take a full second which is eternity.

It's a guranteed way to detroy our Demo as you would need to tell everyone about the pitfalls.

As you probably know, to mitigate the issue of commands being picked up by accident, we ensured all critical commands require confirmation, so the Fo won't turn your IRS  or autopilot off midflight or shut down engine without warning.

Hi There.  I have a new question as Say Intentions have added new facilities.  We now have a co-pilot and cabin crew.these are on other buttons on my joystick. MMC tries to interupt when I use these PTT buttons. Is there a way to have more than one button used? The original button works fine.

The only way you could suppress all MCE speech reco is to enable option "ScrollLock mutes reco" in "Advanced options" panel, then eithervmanually toggle the ScroollLock or find a way to assign a joystick button to toggle that key and obviously have SayItentins use the same button.

The other option is to disable the "Real crew coordination feature" in MCE but that would defeat the purpose and might just as well not run MCE.

Does SayIntentions handle many complex planes or just default ones in X-Plane?

Is it possible to create custom speech commands and have the co-pilot do exactly what you want him to?

Say Intentions works with just about any aircraft, VFR or IFR. It doesn't have any effect on the aircraft in X-Plane, in MSFS is a different matter that I don't have much knowledge of, and it does far more there. The SI co-pilot only handles comms

Ah OK, when you mentioned they are into cabin crew and co-pilot I thought it was fully type rated co-pilot and not just ATC.

In that case, do what you would with ANY other ATC. except PF3 or Radar Contact ATC.

Keep "Talk to ATC controllers" feature in MCE enabled.

Assign a joystick button as if going to use it with native ATC

Then go to "ATC" tab in MCE, click '+' arrow at the bottom until you get to "Other ATC".

Click <Activate> to switch MCE to that mode and restart the app.

From then on, whenever you hold PTT down, MCE will suspend all speech reco until you release it. Just assign same button is Sayntentions.

Applies to Pilo2Atc,, Vatsim or any other ATC
