There is no such thing as "that you never touch it again," or "dial in some down during the climb." CG will constantly change throughout the flight. Now, when the AP is on, the airplane will adjust the trim automatically. After you disconnect the AP, the airplane will fly for a short time without any pilot/trim inputs. As time passes, you must do something: trim or "fight" with the flight controls to keep it in balance. Now we have this FBW system or TRIM SPEED, where the electronics maintain that attitude/speed for a certain time and correct for small changes. For example, it will correct for a +/-10 KTS variation or +/10 FT/MIN change. Those changes vary by flight conditions, approach, takeoff, or cruise. The Boeing 777 is a very stable airplane, but we always use trimming when flying manually, not as much as others do to this system. I fly with a PIlots Life and you get docked for pitch during climb out exceeding 20 degrees. If I don't dial in a bit of down trim during initial climb, pitch will almost always exceed 20 degrees. I fly with autopilot like most airline pilots do, so no need to adjust trim after initial climb. Edited August 23, 20241 yr by Bobsk8

Bob, I'm unfamiliar with "Pilots Life," but I don't understand why you would get that "exceeding 20 degrees." Rightfully so; now I know why you have to trim down. That indicates that there was/is some wrong trim calculation for TO. With the correct trim setting, this airplane, at Vr, with only four fingers and very little force and pull on the yoke, will rotate very nicely to the right attitude for the correct profile. Regarding the statement, after disconnecting, we always adjust the trim and make small corrections despite the airplane's stability. 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.
