block textures

Recommended Posts

If you are seeing large blocks for textures, that's usually a sign of a graphics card problem. Please post what your computer set-up is, especially your graphics card. In the meantime, be sure that your video drivers are up-to-date, as well.Jeff ShylukAssistant Managing EditorSenior Staff ReviwerAVSIM

>This is no gpu problem its an fsx issueNot to belabour what should be obvious, but the above is a logical fallacy. Were it truly an "fsx issue," everyone would be seeing the same thing... :-lol

i think that everybody does see it i will post a shot tomorow. if you look at the edges where desert texture meets green you see small squares rather than i good smooth blend it is almost pixalated but not blurred i thought it may have been to do with my fsx config that i may have tweaked at some point but i deleted it and still the samekav

Kav,Here is a screenshot (cropped detail) from my FSX with default textures. I assume that this is what you mean by "block textures".http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/183263.jpgI hope that Anthony Vos comes up with good blending masks to solve this problem in FSX.Ulf B :-)Edited: Bill, I hope you can see the "issue" ;-)

Also, in order to make nice textures elsewhere the transitions can become apparent, and, Holger chimed in on part of the problem with respect to sand/rock texture transition in this thread: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=24163Anthony is working on some custom masks as mentioned in this thread. He posted beta's of those masks in the GEX forums here:http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=23869Which deals with the issue Ulf B posted with his screeshot above. Some changes were good, others not so good with that test. Make sure to back up the originals if you try them.

I use the beta masks and they do help in many areas but they show other issue in some areas. Overall I find them better and as GEX is developed we should all see some relief in that area. After redefining the color blend and the textures response to light it tends to hide the problem quite well with the beta masks installed. Here is a shot of the desert and a few other locations after I modified the GEX fall/winter/hard winter texture sets for correct color and lighting and also redefined the fresnel blur which makes them significantly better defined to the eye and takes into account the loss between 32bit and DXT1 in processing. They also respond better to overcast clouds and light. These are all Late November and early January imagesThese are just beta's of my first test run so they are not perfectDesert: With the color and lighting changes this brings the desert to life. the brush and rocks become defined and shadowed even though its a trick in manipulating the textureshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/183294.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/183289.jpgSeattle:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/183290.jpgYellowStone:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/183297.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/183292.jpgSalt Lake:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/183293.jpgScranton, PAhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/183296.jpg
