December 6, 20241 yr Hi everyone! I actually bought the Pro Flight Emulator ATC add-on years ago and had been satisfied by the purchase. Now I see that PF3 is really an advanced version of it which is a freeware now. Could anybody jut explain me what are basically the upgradation or simply the differences between PFE & PF3? Moreover, how much disk space does PF3 require in order to execute it? Thank you! December 6, 20241 yr I don't remember how much drive space does PF3 take, but should not be that much. I'm sure is way less than 10 GB. Install may seem slow, but that's because there is a lot of small files. There are two big advantages of PF3 vs PFE: - PF3 has all the additional voices included (something you needed to pay for with PFE). - And the most important thing: reading a flightplan is a lot easier. You no longer need to use PF2000 to process the flightplans before using them. Since you're in FS9, now you have 2 freeware options for ATC: that one and Radar Contact. Some people prefer the latter. I used PF3 for the last 7 years, even in MSFS. My preference is clear 😂 EDIT. I read in a forum some months ago where people were discussing that PF3 aquires 48 GB of disk space! Lol, if it's really true then PF3 is a huge burden! Could you just provide me the website or the download link for Radar Contact as I am unable to find it on web... Thank you! According to the User Guide, 3.5 GB disk space is required for PF3. As for RC4, I think the download links are no longer working. You can PM Ray Proudfoot for links. December 7, 20241 yr I can confirm that my installation is 3.86 GB. More space than that may be needed during installation whilst all the voices are "unsqueezed", but I doubt it uses the amount that is banded around. There's really no point in hanging on to PFE. PF3 is significantly more advanced and over the years has had numerous tweaks added to improve things. As its free - it certainly costs nothing to try out! December 17, 20241 yr Author Hi everyone! I came over a billion dollars doubt which I don't know if anybody could answer here... I was just thinking to upgrade myself to the latest PF3 but I came over a serious question. As PF3 development is now closed, (and won't open anymore, I think so) the developers had made it free for all. But according to my experience, whenever such things happen, after some years the website gets closed as well as the download seeds decrease and at last we don't get any active path for downloading the particular software. So my question is that: IS THERE ANY WAY TO STORE THE PF3 DOWNLOADED FILES OR I HAVE TO RUN THE SETUP EVERYTIME CAUSING WASTAGE OF DATA AND TIME AS WELL AS FUTURE RISKS OF GETTING THE SOFTWARE DEAD??? Any sort of help is appreciated... Thank you! <To moderators: Please move this topic to a different forum if necessary as this topic is related to PF3 not FS9> "When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it." - Henry Ford Rupayan Ghosh, New Delhi, India
December 17, 20241 yr I've only downloaded the PF3 installers twice since I purchased it in 2017 (4 rigs ago). And the second time was because I wanted to install it into my laptop and I was away from my main rig. Just save it to your drive (and get a backup, just in case). December 17, 20241 yr Yes. Make sure you also save the install instructions. The author is no spring chicken so one day, yes, the web site will close. But he has made every provision so that everything can continue in his absence. As you know, he has provided a free registration key so that when the day comes that the registration system ceases to work, the software can still be installed. I'm sure he will have made provision for the software to be distributed by other means too. Nevertheless, as a matter of routine I keep a safe copy of all software I download to cover all eventualities - it seems sensible to do so. But I can also confirm from past computer changes here that a backed-up copy of the fully-installed version will work fine with nothing more than the registration code re-inserted. Finally, PF3 development is not yet totally closed as the author will keep up with new versions of (or changes to) the latest MSFS as that progresses, and indeed has indicated if any significant issues arise working with earlier simulators he will look into them.
