Very basic question about the PMDG 737 and radio comm

If one radio is tuned to VHF1 (ground) and the other is tuned to VHF2 (tower), which one is active and heard by the simmer?

 

I think what really matters is what you would transmit yourself. There is transmit buttons on both sides.

Listening buttons are below the transmit ones

Thank you.... except...there are so many buttons.... 😖

Which button should I press to transmit on Comm1?  On Comm2?  Which button to press to listen on Comm1?  On Comm2?

First, under the MIC SELECTOR, you can press any button you want to listen to (e.g., 1-2-3 VHF, etc). The buttons will backlight accordingly. You can push all of them, but you need to adjust the volume accordingly.
 
To transmit on channel 1, select the MIC SELECTOR to transmit and press the respective button to listen only on VHF1. Once you have set who you want to talk to, you can push the yoke, pedestal, or visor button before transmitting.
 
I don't think PMDG allows you to listen to all channels simultaneously.

Yes, the leftmost side, labeled "1," corresponds to COM1 under the MIC SELECTOR. The receiver associated with volume control for COM1 is located below the indication "1." When you push this button, it selects the audio for the respective receiver. Rotating the knob should control the volume; however, it seems that this feature is not functioning correctly on PMDG. If you push the button again, it will deactivate the audio for COM1. The same process applies for COM2 and COM3.
To transmit, press the microphone switch on the yoke or the push-to-talk switch on the glareshield before speaking.

In addition to the above, I would just add that the CAPTAIN listens and transmits according to what is on the Left audio control panel, while the F/O listens and transmits according to what is on the Right audio control panel. In a typical flight situation, both pilots would be listening to the same ATC frequency. The PM may switch to other frequencies such as company (ops or dispatch) or ATIS as needed. The sim (I'm not sure about this) may play whatever is tuned at the moment on both audio control panels, meaning you, as the user of the sim, you get to hear what both pilots are hearing.

I usually keep com 2 on gaurd. I was wondering why I never heard anything on it.

The PMDG does permit monitoring multiple receivers at once, if the correct reception knobs are depressed and turned up.  This is functional on Vatsim as well; you can for instance have ATC on VHF 1 while listening to Atis on VHF 2.

Remember that you can only transmit on one radio at a time though, and thus the transmitter selection (these are actually the buttons under "Mic Selection") is only one at a time.  The round knobs UNDER the rectangular transmit select buttons are what you want to use to select a receiver (or several).

I understand; that's why I said, "It seems." So, it may be a corrupt file in my case. Next question: Can you adjust the volume on the receiver switches? I can't on my end. I re-checked; the volume knob (in my case) has only two positions and can't adjust any intermediary.

Really good info. Thank you.  I need to test this ie. listen to both ground control on VHF1 and to the tower on VHF2 at the same time.
