Render Preset: Medium

what exactly do you mean: Medium under "Global Rendering Quality" under VR/VR Graphics in MSFS2024?

I usually selected each item manually, but the I could not activate "Raytraced Shadows", that option was greyed out, only available in HIGH or ULTRA I was told.

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

Yes. I use Ultra when in 2D and Medium when in VR.

and still, in the middle of nowhere, I am only getting around 20 fps with your recommendations, at 11S Sekiuin the KingAir on the ground

spacer.png

but in return I now get double Pimax Sound Output devices, I'd prefer double fps instead 🤣

spacer.png

edit: re-applied the settings, now also 44 fps.

phew - that looks better, nearly HP G2 performance.

but:

looking out the window, clouds, rain, night, scenery only, it is back to only lousy 18 fps. still have to experiment and find the best setting.

getting a Quest3 tomorrow, will compare and report back.

thanks very much again Fielder for you support, without you I would still be crawling @15 fps. 🤣

I'm getting 42 fps in PCL in the same plane at that same location (in VR).  I think your issue is some sort of sound settings. I would deselect the Pimax sound in PImax Play and then in Windows Control Panel set your normal sound. Just as a test. That will verify if sound is your problem. I say this because during the last month or so when VR doesn't run stable, for me its always in the sound settings somewhere that that the problem lies. When I cure that great results from then on, until I start messing with sound settings again.

The Q3 also has a thing like Pimax' Upscale. Meta calls it FSR or something like that. Be sure to turn that on. I don't have a Q3.

Its ASW not FSR. Asynchronous Space Warp.

This morning I flew from the 11S apt you mentioned to KSEA Seattle and got great clarity and fps all the way. Using preset K and DLSS 4. PCL headset. But in the Carenado 170.

Still the Q3 is going to be great for you, I think you'll find.

Did you get a quest 3? Let us know how it goes 🙂

wilco.

haven't even installed it yet, apart from pre-charging the batteries. 😃

I have a Q3, only because my G2 died before the PCL came out and it was the best value proposition at the time, so I am wondering if I'd be better off with a PCL instead. As such, I too am very interested in your comparison between PCL and Q3, especially coming from a G2 like I did.

same here, my G2's headstrap  broke partially, so I decided it wsa time to get something new.

currently I am struggling with activating the Q 3. install program insists I have a business/school account and won't let me continue even after 6 factory resets and 6 times the same software updates. their customer support is prompt, but useless. I'll have to try again using a different email adress they said. will report back when I am done. but I can say already build quality seems more polished than the Pimax. installation of the Pimax was very easy and picture quality is fantastic. but you should only consider the Pimax if you have the beafiest pc (which I see you have) due to it's incredible resolution of 16.5 mega pixel. how I wish FrameGen, let alone MultiFrameGen would work in VR. we all would be the first to get a 5090.

I hope you get your Q3 install issues sorted.

Re the PCL needing a beefy PC, yes I am aware that the higher resolution than the Q3 will demand that but I am hoping that the PCL gives better IQ than and similar performance to the Q3 at a similar render resolution simply because it has a greater pixel density and better optics (I think). I am not really interested in getting a 5090 as its ridiculous price coupled with only a marginal raw performance boost over the 4090 makes it a poor value upgrade, so if a 4090 isn't enough to run a PCL with better IQ and similar performance than the Q3 then I will just stick with the Q3 until the next GPU generation that is actually worth upgrading to.

Once again I remind that with my 12GB 4070 and old 5800X3D, the PCL is giving me a great time in 2020 and 2024. Performance and stability is not an issue.

The resolution slider in Pimax Play has 3 presets: Low is 50%, Medium is 75%, high is 100%. I am now using the slider for an in-between resolution of 83%. This is giving me a nice picture not that far from 100% (100% is 8K).

I can see VRFlightSimGuy's video, He uses 100%. But then he has a 4090. He's also getting higher fps than I.

In VR I get in the high 30s to just over 40. msfs 2020 tracks better than 2024. In 2024 I have to get the lighting in the room just right for perfect tracking. But 2020 has no tracking problems.

I use OpenXR Toolkit along with Pimax Play in MSFS VR. It opens automatically and just does its thing in the background, out of sight and mind.

One thing i find excellent with the Q3 is its motion reprojection, which not only works very well at half the preset target resolutions (72, 80, 90, 120 Hz) but also pretty good when you are below these targets. The G2 had very average at best motion reprojection when locked, but if you lost that lock it looked terrible and all flubbery.

I am therefore interested to hear how the PCL's motion reprojection compares to the Q3, especially below target FPS lock, because the Q3's motion reprojection solution is not something I will give up easily.
