PKSIM Lima

Featured Replies

I installed and registered Lima from PKSIM in P3Dv4.5.
But now I had to install a previous PC back-up, and with that my LIMA is gone.
Reinstalling now does not work because the old LIMA registration is still active.
Question: where is the software registered in v4.5 so that I can delete LIMA and reinstall it

Peter

I don't understand, why LIMA is gone, when the old registration should be still active. If your backup is from a time LIMA was already installed, why is it without LIMA. Usually it is possible to just install over an existing installation of a software. Only few software do block this wanting you to uninstall first.

Wintoys available from the Microsoft Store (free) is said to be capable to uninstall software no longer there but with an entry in the registry. I'd try this.

The other but more dangerous method is to seek the registry with regedit or other registry tools for the entry and delete it. But that's nothing for the unexperienced, cause you can harm more

I try to make it more simple: installed Lima and activated. Then after another day I got many problems

with my pc.  Before I try to find the fault, I installed a backup for the whole PC.

That´s  normally works perfectly.

So,in the new installed back-up I try to re-install Lima, but the registration failed: "you can install Lima

only on one PC, or delete the previous version.

The scenery is deleted by replacing the back-up, but the registration must be somewhere, but I have no

idea where it could be

Peter

I agree with Dan, it's probably leftover registry entries that are stopping your installers. PKSIM scenery installers add registry entries, so deleting/removing/relocating files without removing the corresponding registry entries will cause this problem. In the future, if you need to move PKSIM files / replace the hard drive / etc, be sure to run the uninstallers first, which should remove the registry entries properly and allow you to run the installers again. Think of it as a light switch; can't turn it on twice without turning it off first.

That said, you can really mess up your machine by making changes in the registry, so it's important you know what you're doing. I strongly advise NOT to delete any registry entries first without making backups and understanding how to re-load your backup entries.

That is why I'd recommend starting with Dan's suggestion re: free registry cleanup tools.

Also might be worth reaching out to PKSIM and asking for some help. They may be able to help identify all the registry entries that need to be deleted.

It sounds to me, you need to contact PKSIM and ask them to reset your installation counter. That's their way of avoiding piracy. So then there's no need to fix the registry, which will not work, since the installer is calling home (PKSIM Server) to ask permission to install. Tell them, you restored your system from a backup and now no longer have LIMA on the drive and can't reinstall because of the only once installation rule. Also try if you can fix it with Wintoys uninstaller.

Install a backup for the whole PC? That's the Atomic Bomb Method. Prepar3D has a repair function. You can just go to Windows Settings, Apps and click on the three dots. Then you have uninstall and change. Select change and you will have the option to repair. I sometimes also delete some Prepar3D files and let them restore by this repair install function. It brings back the original files, just in case you changed something on it. So no need to reinstall the whole system.

Thank you guys for your help. Learned something again.
I have contacted PakSim in the meantime, but no answer yet. Let's see how they behave.

First of all, a big thank you to you

Peter
