March 18, 20251 yr I was looking for an Atlas Air livery for the salty sim 747 but there was only ones for 2020. Does anybody know if some of these liveries will ever be updated?
March 18, 20251 yr Do you have a link for the livery? I could maybe have a go at it (with the original author's permission I hope). I haven't tried the Salty 747 in 2024 yet, so this could be a good excuse.

March 18, 20251 yr Thanks for the link! Here we are in MSFS 2024 (KTX2 format textures): I seem to get a flashing "747" on the port side: As soon as I sort that out, I'll PM you a link :) Adam. P.S. I'd forgotten what a stunning aircraft the 747 is. Magnificent!! Edited March 18, 20251 yr by Adamski_NZ

March 19, 20251 yr Update: I've contacted Frex (the author) via Discord - but he hasn't been active there for two years, so we may not have any luck. I respect other peoples work, so probably won't go any further unless I get the OK from him. In any case, I can't seem to solve the flashing 747 issue (without editing the actual model files), so I'd need his help on that.

That sucks I'll try to find and contact other people related to him and see if there's anything from him. Aside from that the strange thing I have encountered with the mod is in the liveries page the livery appears on the Boeing house livery but when I load into the game it defaults back to the Boeing livery. The Atlas livery also appears just fine on the static aircraft.

I think that's all to do with the sorting/grouping that 2024 uses - very different to 2020, so the entries in aircraft.cfg need to be amended. To be honest, converting 2020 liveries is a nightmare.

I've never managed to get to grips with doing liveries/repaints, but I have been an avid consumer of same. Just curious Adam, in simple terms, what have MAsobo done to make all the old 2020 liveries unusable? In your opinion, whatever it was, was it technically necessary or just another unintended consequence? Don't feel obliged to go into any great detail, or indeed even reply! cheers Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

I'm sorry to say I can't give you a sensible answer :( ... all the information I have is often contradictory. The SDK documentation is hopelessly incomplete, inaccurate, or just wrong - so people have to try random kludges or tweaks to make things work. Sometimes solutions appear to work, then fail later - especially after SU1. IMHO, Asobo never really devoted much time to the transitioning of existing 3rd party 2020 content before releasing 2024, leaving many 3rd part developers (commercial and freeware) in the lurch. Even after the launch, I think 3rd party developers weren't given the same kind of access to tools or information that they had with 2020. I have yet to find a *definitive* guide to making "legacy" aircraft or liveries work in 2024. It's so bad that a prolific (and highly respected) livery creator, Jankees Blom, has wiped 2024 from his system. That speaks volumes. Edited March 19, 20251 yr by Adamski_NZ
March 19, 20251 yr @Adamski_NZ, thanks for taking the time to reply. It all sounds a bit scary. I quite like 2024 most of the time, but then I'm unusual in that I'm really not even slightly interested in anything flight related in a flight simulator! I'm just here for the scenery. And it most cases (but even there, not all), 2024 absolutely excels in that area (although we won't mention the PG trees here). But even though I love what 2024 provides at the very low and ground level, plus the lighting and colouring, I can see that it is really a pretty shameful thing to have been released in this condition. If they try the same trick again in a few years time (MSFS2028 maybe?) I will need a lot of convincing to consider "upgrading" again, and I doubt I'm the only one feels that way. I know they've got a lot of time to fix 2024 but they really have some serious repair work to do both with the sim itself and their credibility. Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. March 19, 20251 yr It is indeed a shame. As a sim, I think 2024 is a downgrade (IMHO). However - if you view it as a *game*, then it's an improvement (!). The eye-candy is stunning and I'm finding it really quite stable (on my system at least!) ... all very good, but boredom quickly sets in as the stimulation of trying to do things "by the book" just isn't there - unless you spend a small fortune on high quality payware addons. A case in point is the "Career Mode". It's hopelessly unrealistic, has too many obvious bugs - and gets utterly annoying with the banal voiceovers in the missions. Either do it properly or leave it alone.

Thanks for the help and hopefully this sim gets improved and is more accessible to mods in the future.
