Active Sky for FS2024

Featured Replies

I really wonder if it is a data problem or just a "tone the weather down" problem.  They've always seemed to boucne between the extremes.  I remember in 2020 at one point they had icing turned up to the point where your aircraft would turn into an iceberg sitting on the ground.  The whole "lightning everwhere" problem was a thing too, where any puffy cloud could produce lightning.  I wonder if MS took those complaints and just went too far.

Again, I've seen 2020/2024 represent weather amazingly well.  This winter I took off from Buffalo in no snow, over the lake effect bands, and landed on the other side of it.  That's exactly how the weather was and 2024 had it represented perfectly.

Then last weekend, everything was just wrong for days.

If it were always wrong, it could be a data or sim issue, but sometimes they nail it, sometimes it is way off.  I'm not talking tracking a fast moving cold front, but long term conditions.

Dude you would love Active Sky then. One bonus is there is SI integration. I just got done doing a Brazil tour in a DA40 and if I don't feel like I escaped with my life. It just so happened it was raining season in Brazil and flew through some insane weather saw plenty of lightning and I mean ALOT. Towards the end I was fighting some "gethereitis" because Fenix was talking about a BFU and whatnot. Took off from SBRJ in some seriously wild conditions. I love ActiveSky and im pretty sure you will too. This was in 24 BTW mostly night ops because I always fly real-time and have a demanding job.

Yeah I just loaded up in Skopje and there was properly angry weather, some actual lightning.  The kind of stuff which makes  you wish you had a proper weather radar.

With active sky there's no radar but it does have a precipitation maps with sigmets you can make educated guesses with. It also shows injected traffic. It's not over the top amazing but it works.

What kills me about the default weather is the turbulence, which is very bad and I think that except for the beginning of 2020 I don't remember a thunderstorm with the live weather, but with the manual weather it is able to represent them. With 2024 it's exactly the same for me.
