June 1, 20251 yr I've been lately meaning to fly the ATR (haven't flown it in a while), and earlier this week, I came across the Air North livery you see below. Furthermore, seeing "rmeier's" comment today...🙂...in a recent post here, one of his Air North related (MSFS) posts, from a year or so ago, also came to my mind, about an Air North DC-3 in the "Yukon Sourdough" (bold-yellow) livery. If you are interested in this Air North DC-3, see the link I've provided below (posted by a true Canadian aviation enthusiast...🙂...). Anyway, today, I got to recall the (classic) Canadian airline Air North touted (and justifiably so) as the Yukon's Airline (see this slogan printed under the airline name in the livery of my images below). Air North's (current) Fleet exclusively consists of only ATR 42s/72s (and Boeing 737s). While looking up a bit more about Air North, on-line (i.e., asking AI Overview), I received two interesting (and accurate) results as below. My two inquiries were as follows: I asked about "C-FGVF ATR" (C-FGVF is the Reg. ID shown on the livery of my ATR images below i.e., the ID entered by the repainter of this livery which came from a repaint pack I'd picked up in the MSFS Marketplace). Now, this ID is incorrect. The correct Reg. ID for this Air North ATR is (C-FVGF not C-FGVF). In shot #3 below, note the nosewheel door marking, which says "GVF"; it should be "VGF". AI Overview instantly replied to me, "The query "C-FGVF ATR" likely refers to an ATR aircraft with the registration C-FVGF (for Air North)." Smart (AI) response indeed...🙂...If I knew who is the repainter of this livery, I might have let him/her know via a personal message, but unlike old times, in the MSFS Marketplace, I only know the vendor's name but not who contributed to the livery pack...Oh well...I'm thankful to the repainter, nonetheless... Next, been aware that Air North has recently acquired the 737-800 NG (though the airline is a traditional operator of only the legacy (original and classic) 737s), I asked "When did Air North get the 737-800?". AI Overview instantly replied, "Air North began receiving B737-800 aircraft in 2024. The first 737-800 arrived in Whitehorse (my ORIG and DEST airport here for this roundtrip flight today) on July 10, 2024. The first inaugural flight of one of the new 737-800s was on July 25, 2024." Impressive results again...! If you own the PMDG 737-800, and if you wish to fly Air North, you can pick up an Air North livery from the library and fly it on a RW Air North Route across the Yukon Territory. Also, after you view my ATR Turboprop images, I invite you to view this 8min:51s video (less 2 mins if you exclude the promotional part at the end; search for "Air North 737-800 C-FNYU Inaugural") of Air North's first B737-800 flight, lifting off from Vancouver International Airport. It must have been an exciting occasion for Air North that has been flying only the legacy 737s for most of 40+ years of its existence (btw, the narrator of the video exudes excitement too...🙂...). I am myself no stranger to Air North (airline), speaking, of course, purely from the virtual simmer's perspective...🙂... In my old SIMs, I particularly recall, from years ago, flying its 737-200s (see one shot below, mixed in somewhere within my ATR images, of a 737-200 that I've included, with "FSX" feel written all over it...🙂...). On the Air North livery, it's hard to not notice the Compass Logo. In the latest bright orange color of the tail design, the Compass logo substitutes for the letter "O" in "Yukon" (in the images below, the word "Yukon" appears on the Tail, with "Y" at top while viewing the RHS fuselage, and at bottom while viewing the LHS fuselage). For this flight, I lift off northward (Runway 32L) from Air North's Headquarter (and main Hub) Whitehorse, Yukon, (CYXY). Whitehorse is also the capital of Yukon Territory (YT). My objective is to do a round-trip (CCW) flight covering the central region of Yukon Territory (see my EFB Map route) and then return to Whitehorse (CYXY) to land (back) on its ILS Runway 32L. The Yukon region in northwestern Canada is known for its vast wilderness, rugged mountains, and historical significance, including the (historic) Klondike Gold Rush. From Whitehorse, Air North not only serves big cities such as Vancouver and Calgary, but also small towns such as Dawson City, where Klondike Gold Rush had originally started. In my flight today, I overflew many mountains, lakes, rivers, and valleys. Hope you enjoy this collection of images of Air North's ATR 42-300 flying around the airline's home grounds, the Yukon Territory. Thanks for viewing...!

June 1, 20251 yr Great set of photos...and a very familiar story (of Air North)! Thanks for posting the link...I still fly that DC-3 periodically in MSFS 2020. 🙂 The real world Air North B737-500 (in the same orange livery) is a common visitor on the south ramp of YVR...see it often if/when I stop by and have lunch at the observation deck at the old terminal. 🙂 CYXY is always a challenging approach (mountainous terrain and weather) during winter conditions. I use the SimAddons Whitehorse scenery with Active Sky in MSFS 2020 multiplied a million times more difficult using old school VOR/dead reckoning/steam gauge ILS in the DC-3 with no excess climb power for a go-around! Those real world old school Air North DC-3 pilots of yesteryear had nerves of steel to do that on a routine basis before the days of modern GPS!!! Much respect! 🙂 If you haven't seen them before, there's a guy over on Youtube that covers real world Canadian aviation (Alex Praglowski) making actual flights and documenting them in YT videos...numerous ones with Air North. (I'd love to have his job!!!) 🙂 Thanks again for the post!
June 1, 20251 yr Author Appreciated the comments, pmplayer and rmeier...! 6 hours ago, rmeier said: ...CYXY is always a challenging approach (mountainous terrain and weather) during winter conditions... Fully agree after finding out myself for the first time...🙂...this was surely no (Chicago-St. Louis) Great Plains flight...🙂...of earlier this week... It took a couple of attempts to touch down safely. It's indeed a mountainous approach with that Yukon River flowing straight through the city. I used the river and the lake (I forget the name) south of the airport to my advantage. Glimpses of the Yukon River and the Lake can be seen around those mountains, in my shot #7 from bottom... I will look up the Air North YT videos...thank you.
June 1, 20251 yr Great pics, P_7878 !! I remember and I'm sure you do too, there was a great HS-748 (payware and freeware) in FS9/FSX in Air North colors, that I really liked to fly. I even managed to port it to FS2020, but of course not to FS2024. Any attempt to stretch fuel is guaranteed to increase headwinds My specs: AMD Radeon RX6700XT, AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 32GB RAM, 34" monitor, screen resolution: 2560x1080

That tail design blue N and blue Compass was a favorite of mine too. Yes, not so easy to forget Rick Piper's (freeware) HS.748...🙂...from FS9/FSX...I recall we also flew a version from Just Flight...much later...I know if any can be converted to our MSFS world, you would have done it...🙂... You made me look right here into AVSIM Forum. Found a still existent (2006) thread "Rick Piper's Hawker Siddeley HS.748 RELEASED!". The opening post is this...🙂... "WOW! Where did this thing come from? (Shows how much I know.:>) ) Just came home from a gig, went to the AVSIM forum to see what was up--there's this long thread about a Hawker Sidley... Humm. looks interesting,,think I'll have a look before hitting the sack..Fantastic.. I'm still at it.... Thanks so much Rick... I'm hooked..." [And after 20 years including 5 years of MSFS, that HS.748 still remains the best for us in FS...until an MSFS developer judges it financially lucrative to create one here for us few...not likely in the near future...Much more likely to see yet another variant of A320 or B737...🙂...] Edited June 7, 20251 yr by P_7878
