i installed  ultimate traffic live, when i come close to any AI aircraft it appears good and clear

but far AI Aircraft appears BLURY

any fix please

Does this only happen with Ultimate traffic Live?  Does any other AI aircraft blur at a distance?

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱

If I recall correctly, it has something to do with the textures not having mipmaps? It's been almost 15 years since I've used FSX though so there might be more to it than that.

From a quick Google search:

Addressing Blurry Aircraft Textures in FSX with Ultimate Traffic Live:
If you're experiencing blurry aircraft textures from Ultimate Traffic Live in Flight Simulator X (FSX), especially at a distance, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take:
1. Adjust In-Sim Graphics Settings:
  • Global Texture Resolution: Ensure the "Global texture resolution" slider in your FSX graphics settings is set to the maximum or adjusted to a value that balances performance and visual clarity.
  • Anisotropic Filtering: Verify that Anisotropic filtering is enabled and set to a suitable level, as it helps improve texture sharpness, especially when viewed at an angle.
  • Target Frame Rate: Consider setting a locked frame rate in FSX. Lowering the target frame rate can allow the simulator to prioritize loading textures, which may improve clarity, especially when flying at lower altitudes and higher speeds.
  • Level of Detail (LOD) Radius: Increasing the LOD radius in the FSX.cfg file can help reduce blurry terrain textures, but this comes at the cost of potential performance drops and higher risk of out-of-memory errors.
  • Try Different Filter Modes: Experiment with bilinear, trilinear, and anisotropic filtering settings within FSX to see which provides the best results for your hardware and drivers.
2. Check and Adjust the FSX.cfg File:
  • TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD: Modify the FSX.cfg file to change the TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD value to a higher number like 4096. This instructs FSX to load higher resolution textures.
  • FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION: Adjust the FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION value in the FSX.cfg file. This value determines how much CPU time FSX allocates to loading scenery data and textures. A higher value can improve texture loading at the expense of rendering time, according to Microsoft Support.
3. Address Potential Video Memory Issues:
  • Reduce Screen Resolution: If your scene is taxing your video card's memory, reducing your screen resolution slightly can free up resources for better texture loading.
  • Turn off FXAA or lower settings: Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing (FXAA) can sometimes lead to blurry textures, so consider disabling it or adjusting related settings.
  • Lower other graphics settings: Reducing settings for Autogen, scenery complexity, and terrain texture resolution can help reduce video memory usage and potentially improve texture clarity.
  • Lower AI Traffic: Reducing the amount of AI traffic can also lessen the burden on video memory and improve texture loading.
4. Consider Replacing Default Textures:
  • Download Improved Textures: Some users have found success by searching online Flight Simulator communities (e.g., FlightSim.com) for improved AI aircraft textures designed to fix blurriness.
5. Ensure utl_client is Running:
  • Check Task Manager: Verify that the utl_client process associated with Ultimate Traffic Live is running in your Windows Task Manager. If it's not, you may need to manually start it or troubleshoot why it's not launching automatically.
6. SimConnect Installation:
  • Verify SimConnect Installation: Ensure that the appropriate SimConnect version for your Flight Simulator X installation is properly installed, as it's required for Ultimate Traffic Live to function correctly.
By addressing these settings and potential issues, you can work towards achieving sharper and clearer Ultimate Traffic Live aircraft textures in your FSX environment. Remember that finding the optimal settings may require some experimentation based on your specific hardware and preferences.

Yes, you are right, i got a texture .dds and i edited to have mipmaps, the blurry gone away so it is mipmaps issue.

but i have dozens of traffic planes, so it in order to change all traffic to have mipmaps it will take time and effort. any suggestions

LOD_radius i believe it is or something like that for ai aircraft. To render at farther distances

I used a batch file to add mips back in the day, but that was many years ago and I have since forgotten how to even write those. I'm fairly certain though that there is a automated convertor available now. I'm sure someone here has used one not all that long ago can suggest the name.
