Reinstall FSX, dvd reader not working any more

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,
I need your advice or suggestions on how to reinstall FSX on my PC. I have the three DVDs of the Golden Edition + Acceleration Pack, but unfortunately my DVD drive no longer works and cannot read the DVDs. A few years ago, I created ISO images of each DVD as a backup, and they work perfectly. However, here is the problem: when I mount the first DVD, the installation starts without issues, but at a certain point it asks me to insert the second DVD. So, I unmount the first image and mount the second one, but the installation cannot continue—it keeps asking me to insert the second DVD. Is there a way to solve this problem?

Thank so much in advance,

Ric

However, here is the problem:

Hello! What application do you use to mount ISO images?

For example, if you're using DAEMON Tools Lite, make sure to mount any new ISO images in the same virtual drive as the previous one. If you don't, you might encounter an error message like 'Insert the second DVD.

Hi Jla6yx, it doesn't work unfortunately. I mount the first DVD in the virtual drive --> start fsx installer -->when ask for second DVD unmount first one --> mount the second DVD but installation process can't go on, it continue to ask me "Insert FSX DVD 2", it doesn't recognize.

Not tried it with FSX, but, in some other situations, simply mounting the second (and subsequent) ISOs in their own drive, without dismounting the first image, is sufficient for the installer to find them and continue, else possibly may ask for a prompt for a new drive letter.

Alternatively you could try copying the content of each ISO all to one (temporary) folder, then run the installer from there. Again, in some circumstances, the installer may well run straight through and never ask for a disc change, but if it does just hit return (or click OK or whatever) and it'll find the file(s) it's looking for exactly where it expects them to be.

It all seems to be down to installers not expecting a drive letter to "disappear", as it does do when an ISO is dismounted.

I have seen, in the past, many topics about using the physical discs to install FSX.  Those posts talked
about a problem with disc 2 after installing and removing disc 1.  Even though disc 2 was installed it
kept saying "Install disc 2".  Maybe there is a sameness to your problem using the ISOs?

Another question...Have you ever installed FSX using those ISOs before?

Hi to all, here an update: installing via ISO is impossible, so I follow what Chris says about copying disc1 and disc2 in the same folder and launch the installer, it worked perfectly!

I run and activated my Professional Edition (Disc1 and Disc2) then install Acceleration Pack (Disc3) but doesn't ask me for the activation code! FSX start anyway with an error. So I decide to uninstall acceleration pack and install only Professional Edition + sp1 + sp2, but after uninstalling and reinstalling I get the FSX windows installer Repair or Remove, if I choose remove I got this erroe: Error Failed to load DLL: GameuxInstallHelper when loading FSX.

Any idea?

Hi everyone,

just an update. I uninstalled the previus FSX installation with Aceleration Pack. The I re-installed perfectly FSX Professional Edition copying in one directory DISC1 and DISC2 (overwrite if asked the last 4 files, nothing important). I can't install Aceleration Pack (DISC3) I don't know why. So I installed SP1 and SP2 and works fine for me!

Thanks to all
