Westland Scout Update Available

Featured Replies

Update available as on July 26th, from 1.0.12 to x.x.13. The Scout remains a solid addition to any helicopter hangar, especially considering its price point. The torque stall however is a bit tricky.

Interesting to see an update to a FF/LL aircraft esp an inibuilds one. Jorg has indicated that they can't update them in many cases as the teams that made them have been disbanded. A poster on the official forums says he was laid off from inibuilds after working on many of their FF/LL projects. I wonder if it a minor update to something that MS/Asobo can do themselves.

If it was done by inibuilds it seems strange to pick the Wasp as I understood it worked in 2024 instead of the Skyvan which I have read only has one engine working.

Everything seems to work well on MSFS 2024. The last update smoothens SAS transition.

How do you find it overall, from flight dynamics to systems?

When disengaging the Governor, using throttle and collective gives you a nice feel of control over the engine power and performances?

Does it do realistic autorotations?

It flies similarly to Taog's UH-1 . It's a small helicopter but high performance, it is forgiving and relatively easy to hover. I don't know if is believable.

Interestingly, the only way to deactivate auto governor is when the helicopter engine is turned off. It's always on once you get the engine started. Once the proper start up sequence is completed, all we need is to manage collective. But, this also means you can actually "stall" the torque RPM during fast descents, which leads to a temporary power loss, unless you i interfere with the throttle. Scary!

The last update seems improving SAS transition behavior.

IMO, for the price, the system simulation is surprisingly decent and quite deep. The external sound is convincing too (source: YouTube footage)
