RIP James Lovell, 1928 - 2025

I'm a little surprised no one else has mentioned this, unless I missed it.  Everyone is familiar with Apollo 13 and the consequences it suffered, but to me, Apollo 8 was one of the most important Apollo missions, second only to Apollo 11.

Apollo 8 was the first manned spacecraft to leave the Earth's orbit/gravitational sphere and then eventually the first to orbit the moon.

What a way to spend Christmas Eve!

Agree, Apollo 8 was first astro ride on a Saturn V, first trip to the moon, humans farther away from our planet than ever. RIP Capt. Lovell

I was aware of it I have always been a fan of the Saturn 5 Rockets since I was a kid so anything Apollo I will follow. I think Norm MacDonald said it best though, "Anyone ever heard of Harrison Schmitt??? One of the last people to walk on the moon??? But everyone can name a Kardashian!!!! What does a guy have to do to be famous around here"  😁

RIP Capt. Lovell

I'm actually thinking, the first new lunar mission should be the Kardashian's.  Be a shame if someone forgot to fuel up the lunar lander for return.  Oops!
