  • ß (EsZett) works on my end
  • ü, ö, ä is a problem. It mostly works, but when I enable all of my folder with these umlauts, PSXT stops working... I am currently investigating the issue.

PSXT Airport scan takes forever at the moment. According to ProcMon, it opens every single file (e.g. *.pln, *.dds, *.ini ...). Can you limit to .bgl files?  And it also scans the whole HDD (e.g. even the Recycle Bin). It would be cool if it just focuses on the MSFS folder (and those which have (symbolic) links to it).

I do not agree, it already does that.

PSXT scans the Official and Community folders, including symbolic links. The recursive directory iterator "touches" every file of course, but it only reads files with a .bgl extension.

In the file AirportsScanLog.txt you can exactly follow which folders it scans, for instance it starts with this line:

"Scanning for addon  airports in C:\Users\nwkaa\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official"

At my end an airports scan for about 80 addon airports takes maybe 25 seconds.

I am currently testing 11.10.3

  • "Scanning for airports" works if only a single folder with an umlaut is in the community folder
  • it stops working when two or more folders with an umlaut are in the community folder
  • EsZett may be the same problem

I don't think folder names are a problem now. That part is fully 100% UNICODE. It must be "deeper", maybe your .BGL files are not 100% compliant with the coding standard.

You can test that by removing -temporaraly- the umlaut from the folder name and see what happens then.

Hi Nico,

I can replicate this issue whenever I want. I have removed the sceneries from the addon scenery folder, except for one, and it works. As soon as I add another one, PSXT stops working. In fact, I am using FS Addon Linker to activate/deactivate the sceneries, which adds or removes the symbolic links from the addon scenery folder. 

If you want to check yourself on my system, please see the PM that I sent you yesterday.

Regarding the standards of the .bgl files: I do not think that they are relevant. These are rather old addons that I am using for a long time now. In the past (let's say until early August, because afterwards I have been on vacations) they worked fine with PSXT.

I'm using the addon linker too, no problems.

No sorry, I don't want to log into your system.

Could you post your Log.txt and your AirportsScanLog.txt here from a scan addonairports  session with your full set of addon airports? That would help I guess.

Regarding AirportScanLog.txt: Please notice that I have disabled all airports with an ä,ö, ü or ß otherwise PSXT would crash (on my end, hehe) and no AirportScanLog.txt had been created.

The Log you posted is not from a session in which you scan for addon airports...

Your AirportScanLog.txt  is okay, no problems found.

You  must test with two airports with an umlaut or something else.  Airports without these characters do not give problems.

Try 11.10.4 it has more UNICODE code, now also for searching the .bgl path and the manifest.json for Publisher names.

Hello Niko,

I justn tried 11.10.4. As soon as I have two addons with an umlaut, PSXT crashes after a few seconds and does not respond anymore. No AirportScan.txt is being created.

Hi Holger,

I'm beginning to think that the umlaut is not the problem. I have tested with two addons with an umlaut and that worked fine.

It looks like the problem lies in the airports .BGL file.

Here a special version for you that logs (in detail)  the processing of the .bgl files.

It is just PSXT.exe  , overwite yours.
EDIT: wait here a version that immediately flushes output.
