VeroRoutes Pilot Controlled Lighting

Featured Replies

Just released today it looks like. I’ll be curious to see if this starts to gain traction and we see some more add-ons like this. Seems like a new developer too. Not personally a fan of simmarket so that’s a turnoff for me. I’ll admit though, I’ve always wanted to see this in the sim.

Edit: To their credit - on their website is a trial version. Also looks like this isn’t technically a new developer from reading about their background.

PILOT-CONTROLLED LIGHTING FOR MSFS2024

I saw someone post about this on discord.  How does it work?  Can you assign a button to your joystick or is it interaction just via that little popup in your screenshot?  I've been wanting this for YEARS!  A few airports in XP12 have it

Hehe yeah...  I'll probably just buy it anyway.. seems to be straight forward.  I don't love simmarket though.  Wonder if it will show up anywhere else?

EDIT:  Bought it.  Install straight forward - (email with serial key old school hehe)  About 20 USD.  Installed to my Community folder location via Addon Linker (maybe it's a factor?)

So far not working hehe.  I've checked with a default aircraft and a plane using TDS GTNxi.  I'm on the correct frequency, I'm at KBVS just north of Seattle.  The runway lights are off though so it's like it's working, but it's not detecting the airport I'm at.  Hmmm it could be SU4 beta.  I didn't think of that.

Also their store page says "view the map" for airports that are included...  well I can't tell at all lol... the map isn't interactive/zoomable.  So maybe BVS isn't supported?  But it's a pretty large uncontrolled field with lights irl.

Support via Discord not possible because the invite link is invalid hehe.

Hmmmm

I received a 'Virus detected' warning from Windows Defender when trying to download the trial software and download was blocked.  Hopefully it's just a false positive but I won't be trying again until I know for sure.

I didnt get that (used chrome) but I did get the windows11 blue popup when I ran the exe...  I just ran it anyway.  I'm not too worried about it.  The dev is behind FSAerodata from the FSX/P3D days.

Have you bought it is it working for you?

It's like partially working... the app works and the runway lights are shut off.  (Although the taxiway lights and PAPI are still on - hopefully the dev could control that too) - usually irl these are all off - the only thing on would be the airport beacon.  But that can differ irl as well.

I haven't picked it up yet. I might give the trial a go to see if I can get it working.

Here's a new discord link: https://discord.gg/3rHrnVu7

We think it's because of the way I installed it.  I use Addon Linker with symlinks so the devs thinks it's not adding the product to the exe.xml - we'll try manually for now

I'm also going to ask about the rest of the lighting.  Cause it's kinda weird to be able to see the airport first with taxiway lights hehe... irl it would be pitch black (again this occasionally varies) except the airport beacon.

I also had it flag on my system as a virus. While I'm also confident it's a false positive, I'm in the same boat as the other person who commented that I wont risk it. That's just me.

So we found the issue.  If you install MSFS 2024 in a location other than default, it won't work hehe.

I absolutely hate installing apps deep into the C drive so I've installed mine on a separate drive along with relocating my Community folder there.  This app currently doesn't support that method.

The dev is trying to work on a solution.

The app cannot control PAPI/VASI and taxiway lighting.  So those will be on at night.  Kinda a bummer imo because one can easily spot the airport with those overly bright lights from a distance, kinda ruining the immersion and point of this addon.  That's just my take so far.  But that's partially an Asobo issue because they like to make airport so stupidly bright in the sim.  In real life even major airports are incredibly difficult to spot in city lights.  Rural airports will have a beacon but typically the rest of the airfield lighting will be pitch black.  There are exceptions to this where like taxiway lights always be on but in my experience most airfields are dark in IFR and or sunset-sunrise.
