Loss of E Drive

Featured Replies

A few days ago I contacted HP as my graphics card was playing up. They reinstalled my Windows 11! I have now lost my E Drive, which is integral and runs the Sim and other items. Do you know how to locate internal DRIVES, as it is not showing on Disk Management?

Of course this is a hardware issue, but an agent of HP chose to do a fresh install of W11. So far it has taken HP 7 days to come up with a solution, but as the PC is still under warrenty, Nvidia has said it's the responsibilty of HP, etc.

It's bizarre as the drive is physically there in the computer, but it's not showing on Disk Management!

I'm running the paid professional version of Fortect.

Any ideas how to retrieve this drive would be very helpful.

Thank You

Martin

If it's not showing up in Disk Management, the only software/firmware issues that come to mind are a missing or disabled driver (especially if the drive is connected to a third-party secondary controller chip on the mobo), or a BIOS setting that has the controller or device channel turned off.  Many motherboards have a secondary controller mounted in addition to the chipset's integral controller.

Otherwise, I'd check and reseat the power/data cable(s), but beyond that it would most likely be either a bad drive or a bad controller.

That said, the appearance of concurrent and seemingly unrelated multiple failures has me suspicious that you have something more nefarious going on...e.g. bad power supply, RAM, or motherboard.

Hi Bob, The PC is an OMEN40L by HP (4070 Ti) and still under warranty. That said it has been passed up the line through different HP agents over the past 7 days and I have just been left over the weekend waiting!

The drives are internal and I cannot see them with the sides off the PC. As I was hoping it was going to be an easy fix, hence reaching out on here.

Thanks for the input.

Regards

Martin

Have just reseated 3 integral drives, but still E drive is not showing, although the three show in the BIOS storage devices.

Can only now wait for HP to come back to me!

Thank you for your assistance.

Hello and just to update you: HP have worked on the PC and the E drive now shows up. They are picking up the PC in January as there are a number of issues including replacing the graphics card. It's still under warranty.!

The E Drive issue was to do with a W11 update and changing something from off to on. Sorry my brains foggy to name the actual item!

Away tomorrow for 5 weeks to recouperate.

Thanks again

Martin
