It ain't a plane, but eh....

I dunno...maybe some out there would like to drive the Yamato out on Lake Michigan sometime...http://vdawg.homestead.com/files/yamato5.jpgI started this for Virtual Sailor, but since models in GMAX don't exactly work well for that, I'm stuck with this project for now. I might as well finish it and make it an FS2002 model.

Think of it..... AI boats,,, make some arbitrary airports on lake michigan, have an .air file with floats and a max altitude of say zero, max speed of 45 knots ????? and have it touring all over the place...Very Cool !!! Regards,RomanProject 737-400

Dude, think of CFS3....it will use GMAX models also...no word yet on support for ships but hopefully it will suport them. Also there are ways to use GMAX models in CFS2....I think there is a Yamato already gut its FSDS..Your s could be more fps freindly....share your info in the CFS2 forums at Netwings. They'll flip over it! LOL!www.netwings.org/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgiCheers!

Now I must ask a couple of questions, directed to those who are experienced with GMAX. I learned to use GMAX the day before I started this (a week ago), so I'm still very green with it.Basically, I've been making boxes, turning them into editable poly's, and screwing with it until it looks right.GMAX renders all this with a default smoothness. I've been using the "Smoothing Groups" tool to get some more consistent smoothing, and to get rid of smoothing where there shouldn't be any (the belt armor that sticks out of the hull's side). Will this smoothing carry over when I convert this into an FS model? Also, is there a tool for counting how many polygons there are? I haven't the slightest idea whether I am using too many, or too few polygons. I've been trying to economize where possible, and I've been eliminating polygons that won't show (i.e. any faces inside the hull). But I still have no idea whether I'm being either too stingy or too generous with the polygons. If the smoothing DOES NOT carry over, and I am using too few polygons, how can I take a polygon and split it into some more polygons? Like make a square face with 4 vertices into 4 faces with 9 vertices?I'd appreciate any help you can give me, thanks.

The Bismark would be a cool one, but the Yamato is the MOTHER of all battleships. In my opinion keep goin!!Bob C.

For a simple test, just export it over to FS to check your work. Also lets you know if there are any conflicts regarding export. Most of your smoothing should work fine, depending. Check optimized versions to see if it's working as expected. Check your summary info for details. Wealth of info there.Bob C.

Yamato has been launched.Stern viewhttp://vdawg.homestead.com/files/yamatofull1.jpgBow view, with Shakaga in the background. I would have preferred Kure, but eh...http://vdawg.homestead.com/files/yamatofull2.jpgTwo size comparisons, Cessna first,http://vdawg.homestead.com/files/yamatofull3.jpgAnd 747http://vdawg.homestead.com/files/yamatofull4.jpgAfter adding some more pylons and some details to the deck, I'll start on the main gun turrets. September 11th is nearly over, I hope the pain and anguish of the victim's families is alleviated with new hopes and dreams of living a long fulfilling life.Lots of people have been running heated today. Tempers have flared, civility and humanity have been abandoned. As my hero Beethoven said in his 9th Symphony,"O friends! Not these sounds! But let us strike up more pleasant sounds and more joyful!"

she looks very nice :)Yamato was the biggest warship in the world before it was sunk. It even outsized the US Navy Iowa class Battleships. She was so big that it took hundresds of bombs and torpedoes to sink her. Can't wait to testdrive her. Any chance of adding smoke from the funnels when it is made an FS2002 model ?Jani
