April 13Apr 13 Commercial Member The speech has to be recognized as a valid ATC / Pilot request. But one thing to check is if using the Copilot Speak button works. This would at least prove that you are properly connected to the SIM. Entering and leaving listening mode is a function of pressing and releasing the PTT button, whether or not anything is getting through. Based on your summary, it seems that your speech is not getting through to P2A. The only way to prove/disprove that is to use the Language Trainer and see if it hears you by using the Replay button. If the Replay button stays grayed out, you are not being heard by the Speech Recognizer. There are no log entries when you are not recognized. Dave
April 14Apr 14 Author Here is a video of my showing that I can use the Language Trainer successfully and that my microphone is working just fine. The video then shows me trying to click "Listen" and the "Replay" button remains greyed out. Is there anything else I can do to demonstrate this problem? https://youtu.be/H6LgjMCBWJ0 X-Plane 12, Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Nvidia RTX 5090, Asus ROG Strix X870E-E mb, 96GB DDR5 (6800MHz), 4TB SSD, Triple Monitor 1440p, Windows 11, FliteSim CLS-120 Yoke, Honeycomb Bravo, TurtleBeach VelocityOne Pedals, RealSimGear G1000 Suite, PropWash Radio Stack, Tobii Tracker 5, Asus Xonar U5 sound card.

April 14Apr 14 Author Try it now: I also made this one which demonstrates three things: 1. The "whoosh.wav" does not play after I speak "Radio Check" as it always did before this problem occurred. 2. Using the menu-based ATC works as it always has. 3. Pressing and holding the PTT button turns Green and I pause a second, then speak, then pause a second and release the button. Nothing at all happens. Back when this worked, I would hear the "whoosh" sound from the "whoosh.wav" file that I use as my "Speech Recognized Tone." Hopefully this gives you a couple of good examples of the problem. April 14Apr 14 Commercial Member Thanks for the videos. In the first video, you were interacting with the Windows speech trainer, so your mic physically is working and getting through to Windows. However, to interact with P2A, you would need to close the Trainer window. Then press the Practice button on the P2A Language Trainer. This will load the Speech Recognition engine and the large PTT button will be enabled. Using that PTT button, say something like just "Say Altimeter". I suspect it won't register, but if it does, the phrase will show in the window and the Replay button will be enabled, proving that your mic is getting through to P2A. If it is not getting through, the issue is with Windows Sound Settings. Go through the Microphone Troubleshooting steps in the Quick Setup Guide. A common issue is that your microphone is not set as the Default Windows input device, but there could be other issues. I see in the second video that your Mic is on a headset, but you have the output set to Speakers. This normally would work, but in some environments it does not. Try setting the headset as the output device in both P2A and as the Windows Default Audio Output device. Dave
April 14Apr 14 Author Hi Dave, First, you misunderstand my microphone setup. I have a desk-style microphone (not headset, therefore no headset speakers) and I use my speaker system for sound. My yoke-button PTT mutes all sound from X-Plane when I push it so P2A doesn't hear anything but my voice. I have been using this arrangement since the very first day I installed P2A (over seven years ago!) with total success. It is because of this long standing success until a few weeks ago that leads me to believe: Something in Windows changed how legacy apps (like P2A) access the microphone during runtime Here is a video demonstrating that the "Practice" trainer does not work. I am of course not using the yoke-button for any of this testing. April 14Apr 14 Author Here is as much info on my microphone as I could gather: Edited April 14Apr 14 by snomhf X-Plane 12, Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Nvidia RTX 5090, Asus ROG Strix X870E-E mb, 96GB DDR5 (6800MHz), 4TB SSD, Triple Monitor 1440p, Windows 11, FliteSim CLS-120 Yoke, Honeycomb Bravo, TurtleBeach VelocityOne Pedals, RealSimGear G1000 Suite, PropWash Radio Stack, Tobii Tracker 5, Asus Xonar U5 sound card.
April 15Apr 15 Author I decided as a test, to try another sound card that I happened to have. It DID NOT work any better than the Asus Xonar U5 that I have been using. Here is a link to that small device: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075YFDJ4Q?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_8&th=1 BTW, I decided to go through the Speech Training again. It just works perfectly. It completely understands my voice. I only needed to repeat myself three or four times out of all those phrases. I have to say that my microphone not only works, it works great! My microphone is a small 3.5mm plugin that is mounted on my desk. Here are the settings for this little test sound card: Edited April 15Apr 15 by snomhf X-Plane 12, Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Nvidia RTX 5090, Asus ROG Strix X870E-E mb, 96GB DDR5 (6800MHz), 4TB SSD, Triple Monitor 1440p, Windows 11, FliteSim CLS-120 Yoke, Honeycomb Bravo, TurtleBeach VelocityOne Pedals, RealSimGear G1000 Suite, PropWash Radio Stack, Tobii Tracker 5, Asus Xonar U5 sound card.
April 15Apr 15 Commercial Member Some users have found that changing microphones does the trick, even if the one they are using works with Windows, it isn't visible to P2A. You might also try starting P2A as Administrator, or as a regular user if you are starting it as Admin. That changes what resources Windows lets you access. Check the Levels tab of the Mic properties and put the Mic Boost to 100% and see how that works. Also, try the listen to see if it is coming through loud and clear. Dave
