April 24Apr 24 Author Moderator Rogen, the only things I’ve had to work on in 11 is adding exceptions for Defender to ignore as 11 is far more “protective” than 10 and earlier. If something isn’t broken I tend to leave well alone and yes, like you I have 20+ years of IT experience. I suppose I’m not a tweaker. 😁 All those programs running in the background are having no impact on my flight sim sessions. The Adobe ones are reported as having high impact but don’t seem to have any effect. I was offered a free upgrade of 10 to 11 on two computers which was gratefully accepted. Ray (Cheshire, England). April 25Apr 25 Author Moderator An update. ALT + spacebar now removes the menu bar. Maybe a Windows update has “fixed” it. 🤣 Ray (Cheshire, England). April 28Apr 28 There is a Windows registry tweak that stops Windows 11 feature updates. I have been running like that since prior to the horrid 25H2 mess. You still get all the other security and driver updates but avoid problems like ChasePlane and Aerosoft aircraft being borked. Once you have everything working take a system image backup so you can always go back. This also applies to GSX as every update breaks something.
April 28Apr 28 Author Moderator @simfan1983, sounds interesting. Maybe post a separate topic with the instructions and I’ll pin it. Might be best in the Windows 11 forum. Ray (Cheshire, England). May 6May 6 I used a small freeware tool called inControl by GRC, it updates the registry and prevents feature updates, you still get all the other updates. You can remove it easily if you change your mind. I've been using it since before the disastrous H225 feature update that broke a lot of P3D stuff. The reason I haven't pushed it on the forum is that it's too late for most people unfortunately, but it still might be worth using to prevent any further issues. The other thing I do is take a backup 'system image' of my C drive (where all P3D files and Windows is located) onto an external drive using Windows backup and restore. If P3D then stops working due to corruption or another update and it's not possible to fix it, you can go back and restore the whole system to exactly as it was when you take the system image. Note however that before restoring you should deregister P3D and all PMDG aircraft because when you restore the computer you will nee to reinput your license information. I also have other software on a D drive but this is not affected if you just restore C.
