April 21Apr 21 Noticed a shadow of a DC-8 taxiing at KTOL and determined it was a AIA_DC8_71 textured as the DC-8-71F Burlington Air Express N820BX". Checked the textures and tried the default and the 32bit ver. supplied. Both show up in DXT bmp looking OK, but in the sim just the shadow appears. New one on me...any ideas as what the problem is and solution?
April 21Apr 21 Maybe it's the stealth version trying to avoid paying landing fees? 😉 Seriously though, implies a totally transparent model, which would be weird! My first test would be to make up a texture comprising just a straightforward 256x256 block of colour bmp and give it the same name as one of the original textures, (having saved the originals in a safe place, obviously), and see if the 'plane shows up wearing it's new colour scheme. If so, it's a texture problem, if not there's an issue with the model. Are you sure the textures are the correct ones for the model? Do you have other textures for that model that work?
April 21Apr 21 Author Yeah, it did give me a offensive initials not allowed moment...comical looking to say the least. I substituted an ATI texture for the Burlington and it works fine. So I guess a texture problem but doesn't that usually return a solid white a/c? Transparent aluminum...something out of StarTrek I guess. Not spending too much time with this, the ATI can fill the slot as far as I'm concerned.
April 21Apr 21 Yes, usually a missing texture will produce a light grey aircraft. Just a shot in the dark, but try saving the textures in DXTBMP to a different, but appropriate, format. John My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! http://www.adventure-unlimited.org
April 21Apr 21 Author Thanks for the replies. It was a simple solution. The Alpha Channel was a black square. Changing it to white gets rid of the transparent aluminum and restores visibility.
