September 5Sep 5 Another one coming soon that I have been working on. Have a couple of Nevada airports planned and Ely is the first. I used to do high altitude tests here in FSX back in the day.Ely is the gateway airport to the Great Basin National Park and is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Ely's population is only 4,000, but it is very important to this region to have air service. I was surprised that there are two air ambulance operators at KELY. The elevation is 6200 feet, so your engine will get a workout. The above pic shows that I had to basically rework the whole field, including both runways, the taxiways, and aprons. The default was in pretty sorry condition, even in MSFS24, with missing buildings, taxiway pavement in the wrong place, and so on. The ortho is newer than the airfield layout ☠️Compare the default below...
September 6Sep 6 Looking forward to this. One of my other hobbies revolves around heritage railroads and photography and Ely is home to one of the best and most complete heritage RRs in the US, the Nevada Northern Ry, a place I've visited often both in real life, and the sim. It will be great to have an updated field here!Scott

It's amazing how much of the settled west remains thanks to the railroads.
Tuesday at 01:33 AM5 days Author I thought since Ely is pretty isolated I might also work on some nearby lonely community airports. Nearly done with a companion high elevation airport, Eureka, NV (05U). This airport has a longer runway but fewer facilities
Tuesday at 03:04 AM5 days Evanston WY down the road is up on a hill with a nice view. Buffalos in the State park.Ton of active trains. The roundhouse might take a year to do.The airport is small but I saw a Phenom there.dd Edited Tuesday at 03:25 AM5 days by Sky_Pilot071
