Need help with VR settings for Crystal Light

Featured Replies

In MSFS2024 after switching to VR I see the instruments in the cockpit ( JF RJ70) shimmering in a irritating way. I don't see this problem in DCS.
My system is CPU 5800X3D GPU 4070 Ti RAM 32 Gb Win 11. What is the best settings in Pimax software and in sim. I have tried many things in a session with google ai but not being able to slove this issue

CPU i5 13600 ,GPU 5070TI ,64 Ram, Pimax Light . My Pimax Play settings: Refresh rate 90hz, Image Quality 85% - Quad view off - Center rendering off - Cpu upscaling none - Sharpness 0,6% - Smart Smoothing on - Lock frame rate to half ref on - Fov Crop custom Horizontal 5% Vertical 15% - Hide hidden mask area on - Ipd horizontal offset 0 vertical 0 - With that settings and FPS locked at 32fps and steady, I have an absolute neat sight of the cockpit instruments, I can read even the smallest text placards (PDMG B 737/B 777)

Is not Center rendering off and quadview off very bad for performance ?

AI Gemini, suggested me to turn both off, and was right, as performance improved.

I have almost identical settings as the original post. me: 5800X3D, 4070 (not ti , not super).

Pimax Play: Quadview OFF , Center rendering OFF. Because we should use foveated rendering by MSFS settings and NOT in Pimax Play settings. The MSFS foveated rendering works wonders, and is way better than the Pimax version.

Refresh rate 90% Upscale ON ! The Pimax upscaling works miracles. Turning OFF foveated rendering in Pimax and turning on 90% upscale is the secret to running Crystal light with good but not great hardware. Like I have.

Pimax Smart smoothing: Historically this has never worked well. Perhaps they have fixed it so it may be better now. I do NOT use it.

Lock frame rate to half: No! I can't depend on my flights doing higher than 45 fps or better at all times. Therefore I most certainly do not want to enable this half of 90 fps locked thing.

Pimax Play Display resolution (image quality): I use about 85 to 100% and get good framerates under all conditions. On most flights I can use 100%.

MFSF settings for anti aliasing: TAA: no (I don't have anywhere near a good enough system for that TAA fps killer). I use DLSS instead. And Quality is usually too much for my system. I take it down a notch to balanced.

I also don't use Ultra preset for image quality in MSFS settings. I take it down to the next lower preset.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

What do you mean ? In the Pimax software I can set upscale to preset values quality balanced performance or custom. The latter gives me two sliders super resolution which have 1.0 as lowest value. And sharpness which could be set to 0.9 is that what you mean ?

The settings I see are 70Hz, 90Hz, 90Hz Upscale. I misspoke with 90%. It is 90Hz upscale.

quality balanced performance or custom is not the upscale slider. That is the resolution slider. I use 85 to 100 for resolution. The only upscale setting is 90Hz, as far as I know. It drastically improves fps. The other drastic improvement in fps for me comes from foveated rendering ON (50) in MSFS VR settings.

When I try this I get a warning Resource usage exceeds GPU memory limit, although this is with DLSS quality and a complex airliner JF RJ70. But the shimmering is almost completely gone and image quality is almost monitor like (4K)
better then the Google AI suggestions

resolution slider in pimax play. If you click balanced and then click custom it will show you the percentage. I think balanced is 75% There is nothing much wrong with using balanced (75%). I usually use custom setting 85 or so but it can overload the gpu in dense scenery or complex airliners.

MSFS Traffic settings are biggest drag on performance in msfs.
