August 25, 200718 yr Well, thanks to help on making the textures I'm finally making progress again.http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...nterprise29.jpghttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...nterprise30.jpgIt's really starting to shape up now.
August 25, 200718 yr Almost there!http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...nterprise33.jpgAnd some close-ups:http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...nterprise31.jpghttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...nterprise32.jpgOf course, once I have it textured, then I'll probably have to play with the settings a bit to get the specular right etc., but I'm excited about finishing.A real learning experience UVW mapping the geometry. It really makes you aware of every vert, and every poly. I am so glad that I had gotten fairly decent at modeling first. The fewer polys, the fewer things you have to UVW map! haha
August 27, 200718 yr What do you think?http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...nterprise35.jpghttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...nterprise36.jpgJust have the bridge left.
August 27, 200718 yr Moderator It's looking very, very nice! Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
August 27, 200718 yr Commercial Member Wow, that's really looking superb! I guess next you'll have to start thinking about the flight model:-hang Jon Blum Vertical Reality Simulations
August 28, 200718 yr Well, I fixed the lower part of the flight deck. This unfortunately meant that I had to re-UVW it, but it went pretty fast now that I know what I'm doing. Turned out it was a good thing as I fixed something else, or at least made it better.http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...nterprise39.jpgThen, I added detail geometry around the lower sensor, and finished those textures.http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...nterprise38.jpgAnd finally, made an initial go at the bridge. I have to adjust some windows a bit, but I also added some decals I missed to the rear of the saucer.http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...nterprise40.jpghttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...nterprise41.jpgNext, I just have to figure out the specular. :) Seems it's a pain since you can't see the effect out of game.
August 28, 200718 yr Finally finished the textures.Added the little yellow patches and red lines I had missed before. If anyone knows an episode with the impulse engines lite up, let me know.
August 29, 200718 yr Woho. Finally finished!http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...cs/Star_Low.jpgYou can see some classic shots here: http://picasaweb.google.com/benchmark.avio...SSEnterpriseTOSP.S. They make good desktop wallpapers. :DNow I'll spend some time getting it into the sim properly.Patrick
August 29, 200718 yr I'm no cinematographer, but here's a short video: There is a higher resolution one there too. I have the same feeling I did the first time I watched my 1st radio controlled plane lift off!Patrick
August 29, 200718 yr Moderator Way cool! While I was there I found this gem!"No More Trek! - Star Trek Enterprise Commercial"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_2760OoAVg...related&search= Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
August 30, 200718 yr Very very nice!!! WOW...Where'd you get that detail for the keel? Under the engineering hull that is, you never saw that on the old show (not so sure about the remastered ones they have now)
August 30, 200718 yr >Very very nice!!! WOW...Thanks, I'm very happy with the results of my efforts too. Actually, it came out way better than I ever dreamed, haha.>Where'd you get that detail for the keel? Under the>engineering hull that is, you never saw that on the old show>(not so sure about the remastered ones they have now)It is documented on film in at least one episode where they fly through the atomosphere of Earth in the past and are intercepted by fighters. I have very detailed pictures of the studio model before it was "fixed" by the NASM.
August 30, 200718 yr Wow, this is work! ;)Took me about 8 hours to go through my model, find some minor errors, correct those, then re-do the UVWs. That is a real pain! So, I have learned the hard way correct compile errors BEFORE you UVW map. :)Then, I spent another 10 hours tweeking the textures and mapping to perfection.http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...nterprise44.jpghttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Benchmark_Avionics/Enterprise43.jpgNow I just have to fix a couple of FSX issues, and it will be ready!Patrick
August 30, 200718 yr Moderator All you need now are to "animate" the domes (I don't know the technical term) for the impulse engines. You can make easily clone the existing hemi-spheres, make the existing ones semi-transparent, then slightly scale down the cloned copies.Using an "Ambient" tag, you can add a rotation to the cloned copies so it will appear as though there were some movement.I noticed this in the original ST series...
