Caribou questions

Featured Replies

OK, all you Caribouers (is that a word?) out there. I'm starting to throw this beast together, but I have a couple of questions. First of all, does anyone have any photos of the interior of the aircraft. So far I've been able to come up with nada...zip. Lots of good exterior shots, but nothing of the cargo bay/cokpit.Secondly, can someone familiar with the aircraft confirm my take on the operation of the flaps/ailerons. I won't call them flaperons because they don't appear to work like what I call a flaperon, because they are seperate units. The ailerons appear to be hinged off the back of a larger flap panel and deflect up or down independent of the flap movement. When the flaps deploy downward they just take the ailerons along for the ride. Am I correct? It's hard to pick this up from still photos. Thanks,Mike Stone

ALRIGHT!!!!! The "missing plane!" I will hunt around for ya buddy!Don

Hi Mike,Many thanks in advance! Can't wait to see your Caribou in FS2002. I was stationed at Phu Cat Air Base 1967/68 with the 537th Tactical Airlift Squadron (Caribou) involved with aircraft maintenance. Here are some links to photos which may help.http://amcmuseum.org/cockpits/cockpitc-7.htm Excellent cockpit photohttp://www.petester.com/html/bou9.html Caribou flapshttp://oc-kahuna.com/RMAFCaribous.html Cargo area interior and other exterior photoshttp://www.oc-kahuna.com/TechnicalDiagrams.html Tech drawings of instrument panel and other areashttp://www.c-7acaribou.com/album/acphotos/ac_06.htm Hold your nose and watch your step. I'll check my files and see if I have anything which may be usefull. If I can help with your project, please let me know. I'd suggest using e-mail if possible but I'll also check this forum. Thanks again, looking forward to your new creation.Howard

Here's some...

FANTASTIC!!!!!! Great Nam shots!Don

Ah yes, the majestic Caribou! i started one about 2 weeks ago, not getting very far though. i never seem to find the time!i hope yours goes better than mine. i'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks for all the help guys. Those photos are a BIG help.Mike Stone

Here are some shots I found on the web that show the flaps/flaperons pretty well I think. It appears the sections around the nacelles go down slightly more than the outboard "flaperons" do. I also think the outboard part of the flaperons can act as ailerons for normal roll control hence the name "flaperon". There are outstanding flight and performance charts, but they're the devil to read :http://oc-kahuna.com/Charts.html(I was surpised such a well known plane had such few genuine tech details).
