August 4, 200421 yr OK, I've completely replaced the default coastlines for Long Island, NY... including canal systems, streams, lakes, and ponds. I've pretty much finished my own testing, but since it's such a large area, I'd like to get a few more eyes on it before full release. It gets along great with FSgenesis mesh and landclass, as well as USA Roads. I'd like if someone with Aerosoft Manhattan could give it a shot, as I don't have that addon. You can DL it from here:http://www.slacktide.org/~dan/Long_Island_Coastlines.zipand here are some screenshots to tempt ya:Just outside Fire Island Inlet:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/86700.jpgLloyd's Neck and Harbour... August 4, 200421 yr Fabulous, Dan. This must have been a lot of work. You seem to have also added major roads, islets, and new land class. Looks very good.I don't really have much free time, but hope you do not mind if I download it. It will certainly make flights in New York a lot more realistic. Thanks.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
August 4, 200421 yr Thanks... I added everything but the roads... those are Flight1's USA Roads.I added all the islands, detailed shoreline, inland lakes, streams, and canals. If it is wet, I added it. Did some minor touchups of landclass where data was missing from either the default or FSGenesis landclasses.Took about two weeks worth of evenings... probably could do it in half the time now that I am comfortable working with autoasm. Data source was hydrography DLGs from http://www.webgis.com in ESRI shapefile format. Converted the shapefiles to "Polish Format" with GPSMapEdit from http://www.geopainting.com/en/ , then imported them into Autoasm using the brand new support for Polish Format files. The default coastlines for this area were particularly bad, even by MS standards. Whoever was drawing them must have been working just before a holiday. If you look at the default shoreline for the south east corner of the island, there's about 50 miles where they didn't bother to draw any coastline or LWM mask at all. Dan

August 26, 200421 yr Author Dan,Link seems down - am I too late? Is the final version out ;)? Love to test it - I had downloaded the data to use with slarti, but you're worlds ahead, I'm sure...so I'll stick to VT/NH lakes and rivers!Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
August 27, 200421 yr By some wacky coincidence, I chose to fly to Montauk a few mornings ago, and even though I've never been there, was a little disappointed with the lack of... something... like, oh, the harbor ;)Is this going to be available again?thanksAndrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
August 28, 200421 yr >Dan,>Link seems down - am I too late? Is the final version out ;)?Oops, sorry. Was doing some maintanance on my server, and moved it when I meant to copy. Fixed now. I discovered one small bug when I installed it on a friends computer with Aerosoft Manhattan... it seems I have flooded Goverenor's Island.. oops. I should be ready for full release in a week or so.. there's been a slight delay while I upgrade my PC. FS Should be nice and smooth once I recieve my new 3200+ Athlon XP, but apparantly the company I bought it from is located in Outer Mongolia and their idea of Air Freight is carrier pigeon. > Love to test it - I had downloaded the data to use with>slarti, but you're worlds ahead, I'm sure...so I'll stick to>VT/NH lakes and rivers!Cool, looking forward to it. The NH ocean shoreline should be a quick job, there's what, 15 miles of it? :)Dan
August 28, 200421 yr >By some wacky coincidence, I chose to fly to Montauk a few>mornings ago, and even though I've never been there, was a>little disappointed with the lack of... something... like, oh,>the harbor ;)By another coincidence, I just got back from a 2 week vacation on Long Island, including a week spent camping and fishing out of Montauk. I guarantee that the harbor is there, and in fact has more water than ever. We were camping the night that the remains of Hurricane Charley passed through, and by morning our campsite looked like this:http://slacktide.org:88/~dan/camping/P8150002.JPGhttp://slacktide.org:88/~dan/camping/P8150003.JPG>>Is this going to be available again?Link should work now, just had a little butterfingers accident while doing some server maintainence.

August 28, 200421 yr Author >The NH ocean shoreline should be a quick job, >there's what, 15 miles of it? :)'bout that! And MS *ALMOST* got it right! lolIn all seriousness, it's the Connecticut river that bothers me...Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
