AI Aircraft doing STRANGE things ???

Recommended Posts

Anyone else notice that sometimes AI Aircraft do some VERY STRANGE THINGS???Every once in a while, I will spot an AI Aircraft taxing all over the airport like it is lost or something. It does not follow any particular path, goes right through buildings, crossing runways and taxiways at odd angles, sometimes just stopping for a short while and then changing direction to head off again in some other weird direction.Anyone else see this happening or is it just my imagination??? :)Bill

This sometimes means that there is no valid route for it to take, and it is searching for one. Make sure that you have done the Final Checks section of the manual in that area.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Maybe so. I never say never. But in this case I very much doubt it.This little bugger must have crossed 20 paths that I guarentee were valid without so much as a pause! :)There is no way this guy could havedone what he did just because hecould not find a valid path! :)No this was obviously the result ofsome "rogue programming" :)But it was cool, to say the least.

I have had this happen to me esp. when I am testing out a large number of AI at once (50+). I think the AI computer subroutine just can't keep up.- josh

I have seen a number of strange ai moves. If you look back at posts in the general forum before ttools, you will see that people were reporting odd behavoir then as well. I doubt it has anything to de with anything we have modified. I think there are a few minor bugs in fs2002. I guess it kinda makes things more exciting when you have the possibility of a rogue L1011 roaming around. :-grnmd JeffDetroit, MI USAGO WINGS!!!(as in NHL, not The Discovery Channel)

Have you noticed how AI aircraft dissapear at departure time? This does not effect AI aircraft that are present when you load a flight, but only seems to affect those that you watch land and park up, and then wait and watch for them to depart again. They get their departure clearance and then just dissapear, this happens with about 50% of flights (mainly default 737's & MD80's).I have checked the flights with traffic tools, and there are no errors in them.I know it sounds sad of me to watch the AI/ATC for hours, but often I view from the tower at EGLL etc, especially if I have added more flights to a particular aiport.Has anyone else noticed this, or have a fix for it?Ned.

Yes, I have noticed this. No idea for a fix, or reasons for it, though.

Hi Bill,I've noticed this a bit too.In my experience it happens when there is a queue of aircraft waiting to take off. When the guy who is next to take off gets his take off clearance everyone moves forward, but sometimes the guy who was next (just after the first guy) forgets to stop at the hold short node and ends up continuing on his course until instructed by ATC to take off. At which point he turns round and heads for the node that would be next (on the runway). On reaching that node he takes off.I have had some really amusing situations (particularly around Heathrow) where I nearly took some screen shots of various aircraft "offroading it". They plough through buildings and go up and down the undulations of the land causing all kinds of smoke and debris. Then they come marching back onto the airport to take off like nothing happened. It seems to happen much more to FS98 aircraft (with whom the AI system seems to struggle with generally anyway, I get the impression it can't figure out how big they are, parked in the wrong places and not queueing up properly)No idea what causes it and therefore no idea of a solution but I guess that's just hey way it is.Take care,Ian

Hi I also have noticed some strange things:1: I have a HS 748 which lines up lovely to take off then goes about 30 degrees to the right of the runway takes off and jusst clears the terminal at EGGP.2: If you have any AI flights VFR, (for instance cessnas for flying school traffic) after they ask permission to taxi, if there is a line of aircraft at the hold point it will barge to the front by taxining under/through any waiting aircraft, then when the first aircraft gets permissiont to take off the Vfr plane asks for permission. Its funny to watch.

I have seen this at several airports that I have modified, and have fixed it by moving the nodes around leading to their parking space in order to lessen the "turn" required.I am modeling airports without gates, and am trying to model the old "terminal turn" type of parking. When I get the final turn towards the parking space greater than 90 degrees (or add too many nodes between the taxiway and the parking space), the aircraft will do just as you say - the aircraft placed there intially will depart fine, but the ones that land and park will stop normally, but at departure time will "lurch" a little bit, get stuck, and eventually disappear.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Seems like none of my Piper Cherokee AI aircraft will land at the airport. They get clearance to land, but they are always too high on the approach and do a go-around. The same thing continues to happen for each approach until the aircraft just disappears. All the other aircfart land as they should. It's just the Piper that has the problem. Has anyone else seen this problem?Ray :)

These are some interesting stories. I haven't seen any except for the disappearing aircraft holding short for take-off. I look away briefly, then look back, and the next aircraft for take-off has vanished!!No! It didn't take-off while I wasn't looking. It was "beamed up Scotty." Weird! But, my Mike Stone L-1011s overfly the runway, and the POSKY B767s always crash on final. I haven't seen one land yet. Mike's ERJs, RJ85s and A320s all land just fine. So I posted to the main MSFS conference asking the aircraft builders if they have any suggestions to the very weird AI behavior. Maybe somebody has found the answer. I'm hoping for some direction anyway.Maybe an airfile swap with the POSKY A330s will work. They seem OK.But I don't really know how to make an airfile swap, so I'm stuck.Rick

If you use the default Boeing777-300.air file with the POSKY 767, it will fly as an ai aircraft, but you then need to adjust the contact points so it doesn't sit lopsided. Rick,My Mike Stone L-1011's are weird too. I watch them with AiMap and see them climbing to 100,000 feet at over 25,000 feet per minute! ATC is constantly scolding them. Wonder if switching the airgraft.cfg to perhaps the stock 737 file might work. I only use them for AI traffic, never fly them.

I was doing some final testing on an Air Reserve Base. I was sitting at the end of the runway watching arrivals and departures when 2 F117's and 2 F15's taxied down for take off. The first -15 left right down the centerline. After a couple of F16's landed, the first -117 started it's roll out. Half way down the runway, it turned left, and after crossing a taxi-way, it lifted off and departed the area. The 2nd 117 did the exact same thing on further down the runway. Next, the 2nd -15 took off, straight as an arrow.I've got to believe it has to do with which aircraft you are using for you AI.There is no other explanation that I've seen yet that's much better.Kev
