December 5, 200223 yr For those of you who have Sound Blaster Live cards please follow these steps to properly adjust the # of simultaneous wav files allowed to play.1. Bring up the Creative Launcher by hovering your mouse near the top of your screen. 2. Find the selection that says HQ Audio and click on it.3. You will be shown a screen with a slider bar showing the amount of wavs allowed to play simultaneously.4. You should bump this up several notches. For some reason Creative Labs sets this at a low number as its default. 5. There is no one number that is perfect. Play around with different settings and see what works best for you. This process can also be accomplished if you are only running HQ Audio and none of the other Creative utilities.HQ Audio should be on your task bar. Just click on it and follow the above procedure beginning at step 3.For those of you who have sound cards other than Sound Blaster I suggest you search you manuals and if your card has a setting to adjust # of simultaneous wav files.
December 6, 200223 yr Hi RickT,Excellant advice because I checked and found the # was low, set it higher and it made a big difference. The voices sound much better heck I might go higher.Thank You Nick
December 11, 200223 yr I don't understand instruction #1.Which screen do I hover mouse at top of and do I have to hold down a mouse button to hover? Thanks for answering probably a silly question, but I really don't understand.Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
December 11, 200223 yr Hi Ron,First do you have the Creative SBL software installed? I'm talking about creative laucher, HQ Audio etc. These commands won't work unless you have the software installed. If you have Creative Launcher installed just running the mouse along the top of your screen should bring up Creative Launcher.
December 12, 200223 yr I have Soundblaster Live that came with my computer.I can't find creative launcher.I do have the cd with the software.Maybe it wasn't installed by the guys that built my computer?Any additional advice and help is appreciated.I have RC on order but have not received it yet.Just reading everyone's posts and trying to have everything set up when it arrives.Maybe I won't have to make any changes? Thanks,Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
December 12, 200223 yr If Creative Launcher does not come up when you run your mouse across the top of the screen I doubt the software is installed. Most likely you are running the Microsoft provided default sound drivers. My advice is don't worry about the problem until it happens. When you receive Radar Contact install it and see if you get the slow voice problem. I've been running RCv3 throughout beta testing without the Creative Live software installed and not had any problem.I have a Sound Blaster Live card.
December 12, 200223 yr Commercial Member rick, maybe you can hunt through the registry and see what the registry entry is for simultaneous wavs to play. we can give out the reg hack instead of trying to find the proper drivers/software config tools to update every flavor of soundblaster card. December 12, 200223 yr Thanks for the advice.I just received RC3 so tonight's the night.I've printed and reread the manual so hopefully I won't have any problems. This forum is very helpful.Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
December 12, 200223 yr In WindowsXP Pro the creative software does not include the Creative Launcher for the SoundBlaster Sound Card. All you get is the Audio Headquarters and its group of software when you bring up the AH box. It is accessed from the start menu, programs, Creative. A lot of the features under Windows98SE are not available under WindowsXP Pro. You can ask for the AH icon to start with Windows and display it on the taskbar. You cannot save enviorments linked to games to start anymore. You have to ask for an enviorment manually when you select an application. I just leave mine at 'Living Room' for that reason.Cheers,Gary
December 13, 200223 yr I have XP, SoundBlaster Live, and am having problems also. I cannot find anything to adjust the rate. The speach is slow on RC and I am also having problems with the docking of the text bar.Just not my night but would love some help.Denny ONashville, TN
December 13, 200223 yr Hi Denny,Both these problems are discussed in several threads. The slow sound is to do with the 'priority' setting for RC.Do a forum search on the word 'priority' and you'll find some threads detailing how to change this. All the best,Johnhttp://www.jdtllc.com/images/RCbeta.jpg
December 13, 200223 yr It is only possible to adjust the number of simultaneous wave files on older operating systems. Win 2000 and XP doen't allow this according to this support post on Creatives board"You want to limit the card to outputting only one audio stream at a time. This is only possible with the original Audio HQ for Windows 9x versions where you can change the number of hardware voices to 1 in Device Controls. More secure OSes like NT, 2K and XP are not suitable for such direct hardware access, so there is no option for this in these systems. "
December 14, 200223 yr Just to add specifics to this thread:On a P4PE Asus MB having a SoundMAX integrated audio chip running with driver version 5.12.1.3520 dated 9/6/2002, there is not provision for simultaneous .WAV files. OS is WinXP Pro.And obviously, I am irritated I can't use RC3 because of the unacceptible audio quality. After all, FS2002 ATC audio works fine. ATC simulator audio works fine. RC3 does not.I think we deserve a patch. Gracious, I paid $44 for this program. I think we should demand a fix.Larry
