December 11, 200223 yr Hi Guys, I've been seeing a few of these "no sound" posts lately. So I'll mention something here that I've found works. On the*odd* occasion when I hit "1" on the ADVDISP I get nothing,no ATIS no nothin', and other keys dont work either. What I found is. If I tune ATIS manually, all of a suddenup it comes. Then all of the other keys in ADVDISP workjust fine. Dont ask me why and I know it sounds nuts butit does work, for me anyway.Just thought I'd mention it.Jim
December 11, 200223 yr Commercial Member there is an option on the options page, to autotune the comms. is that checked? JD Read my blog
December 12, 200223 yr >there is an option on the options page, to autotune the >comms. is that checked? Are you refering to "Tune on Contact" John ? If so.. Yes it is sirJim
December 12, 200223 yr Jim,Make sure when you play with Advdisp that you click anywhere on FS (panel, view, whatever) afterwards to return focus to it so FSUIPC sees the keys and sends them to RC.
December 12, 200223 yr Jim, I think Scott hit this one right on. When you clicked on the panel to manually change the ATIS freq you returned the focus back to FS from the ADVDISP. Just a coincidence that you were changing a freq I think. :-)Best, Rob
December 12, 200223 yr Ya know, I think your right guys. That never occured to me. I'll have topay attention to that next time. Thanks a lot menC-yaz Jim
December 12, 200223 yr I am afraid that is not the solution. Like what was mentioned in an other thread I do not get any sounds, but I can see by the changes in avdisp that something has been said and that the next step is required.Norbert
December 12, 200223 yr Commercial Member lets see if your install is good.start rc, click the options button. click the little speaker icon. do you hear the callsign pronounced?what sound card do you have? JD Read my blog
December 12, 200223 yr Yes, I do hear the callsign. My soundcard is Creative AWE 64.I did not have any problem with the earlier versions of RC nor with anything else that produces sound without or within FS, only RC3.Norbert
December 12, 200223 yr Hello !I have exactly the same problem as Norbert.I use Win XP and the soundcard is the soundblaster 5.1 player. Please remind that some functions of the soundblaster can not be downloaded ! Windows uses their own drivers. The one from sondblaster do not work (in Germany). In hope of an answer and with thanks Nils
December 12, 200223 yr My take on this; having just tried out my RC3 for the first time...Some older Windows-versions (like the Win98 first edition that I use) are made in such a way that only one program can use the soundcard at any time, if another program tries to use it it won't work. So I found out I had to hit 'Q' in FS2002 to silence FS; then I would hear the ATC from Radar Contact. But of course it's not an acceptable solution to play FS without any sounds, so I guess that RC3 is not usable for me until I find time and money to upgrade my computer (and along with it a newer Windows version). This is, imho, not very good news, and I believe that it's something the RC creators should look into, and in the end possibly warn customers that you might not be able to use it on older versions of Windows.Morten.
December 12, 200223 yr Commercial Member i've found that it is always a sound card/driver issue, not a windows issue. we have a number of beta testers running earlier versions of windows, without problems. write to me privately and we'll discuss options JD Read my blog
December 13, 200223 yr I use Win98 SE. Like I said there were no problems with the older versions of RC, nor with programs like Flight Deck Companion. My sound card was always able to produce the different sounds together. It only fails with RC3. So there must be something in RC3 that causes the trouble.I must admit however that my sound card is not able to work with Game Commander together with sounds produced by or within FS. It is or Game Commander or FS.So it could be that VB is actually the problem in this case. If it is not possible to find the solution in using other drivers (I did not found them) buying a new card is than the only thing that remains. In that case I will have to wait some time before I can use RC3.Norbert
December 14, 200223 yr John Dekker wrote:: i've found that it is always a sound card/driver issue, not: a windows issue.Yes, I thought about that after I had written the above post, that it might just be that my older Win98 shipped with a old driver for my Soundblaster, and that newer Windows versions might just ship with a newer driver.: write to me privately and we'll discuss optionsWell, I think I will try to search around for updated drivers first, but if I don't find any, or have problems with the one I find I can write you - don't want to waste your time when I still have options to try myself. :)Thanks,Morten.
December 14, 200223 yr Using W98 (not SE) and an Aureal 8830 (Monster Sound) audio card lets me hear RC3 controller and aircraft sounds simultaneously if that is the question. However, if I select an ATIS function preflight, I get both RC and FS audio simultaneously, somewhat annoyingly but livable. Only COM 1 is enabled. Although COM 2 is enabled in the aircraft.cfg, it does not light up using the default Bendix versions edited into the panel of Mike Stone's Beech B1900D twin turbo. Nor do I have the output enabled on the annunciator panel. So it appears to be a function of audio driver as indicated.
