January 24, 200323 yr My question is why do I get an English controller in the US...It seems most of the time I have a guy with an English accent on tower and during the center phases...Can something be done?Thanks..
January 24, 200323 yr Moderator Erjboy,Out of the 8 controller sets released with RC only 2 are non-US voices and only one of those is English. If you downloaded my set from Scott's site that makes two English voices. If you got an English voice on centre and tower then that's just down to the random nature RC chooses voice sets and it's unlikely you'll get that combination again for a while.Imagine how non-American's feel flying in Europe hearing American voices most of the time. That is far more common than your scenario. Speaking personally it doesn't really bother me and I'm disappointed you feel the way you do.I suggest you treat these Anglicised voices as "virtual" immigrants and accept the situation. Of course if you want to increase the number of US voice sets you can download the software from Scott's site (http://fsflightdeck.com/rcv3/index.html) and record 1,139 WAV files. I did this hoping it would increase people's enjoyment of RC but I suppose you can't please all of the people all of the time. Ray (Cheshire, England). January 25, 200323 yr Ray, I don't have a problem with your accent at all. As a matter of fact, you were my approach controller in St Louis tonight! Not a problem. Now, I hope when I fly into Heathrow or Gatwick that I get you and the other English chap. That would be great. But if not, that's ok, too. Thank you for putting in the effort to record all of those wavs. I just sent in my controller set to Scott last week and hopefully he'll have them up soon for download -- right, Scott??? :( :-wave Steve
January 25, 200323 yr Commercial Member if we get 10 brits to record controller scripts, we'll have a uk set.it's a trade off. if we only have to brit controllers in uk, you will only hear those two. not realistic.on the other hand, not realistic to have abernathy controlling uk airspace JD Read my blog
January 25, 200323 yr JD,Well, Rob may be a yank, but Abernathy is, after all, a Scottish name, just like Campbell and Burgess. Hey! We can all be English controllers! :-lolCome to think of it, most of our names our English-ish, and all are definitely European! :-lol
January 25, 200323 yr Seems you misunderstood my post and you just run with it...Nobody is complaining about your English accent nor do I have a problem with it..I was merely stating that I often get the English accent most of the time while I was flying in the US...We all appreciate you hard work and effort you put into this, but next time don't read between the lines because you post got my upset...Joe..
January 25, 200323 yr Moderator Joseph,I'm surprised you get the English chaps so often - as I said earlier there are only two of us. Maybe it's because the accent is so different you do notice it more than the different US accents.I didn't mean to upset you and if I did then I apologise. Maybe if more Brits recorded a set JD would be able to regionalise them to keep accents appropriate to where you're flying. RC still needs more US voice sets so why not make the effort and record a set?Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). January 25, 200323 yr Moderator Hi Paul,Thanks for those kind words. I'm not particularly worried either about the profusion of US voice sets. However, if 50 people from all around the world recorded a set just imagine how wonderful RC would sound. :7Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England).
