FS2002 Crash

Featured Replies

How's this for total frustration? I was near the completion of a perfect flight with the Dreamfleet 737 flying the RC3.0 tutorial KDSM-KORD. For the first time, I didn't make any altitude, course, or speed infractions and I was handed over to approach. I was at 10000 and 240 knots looking forward to a nice approach, landing, and hopefully a nice end of flight critique. I just finished entering a new altimiter setting and then everything froze!!! I got a pop-up box saying" FS2002 has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience.(yea, sure). and then an option to send an error report saying "Please tell Microsoft about this problem." I was not online at the time and lost the message as well as FS while trying to log on. Any ideas how I can avoid this again? I never had it happen before. I have a 2.8ghz P4, a gig or ram, and the system is new. I was flying the DF737-400 and was using the FMC. As I said, this has never happened before. Thanks. :-(

save the rc "State" when you contact approach, and see what happens. if it falls on it's face again, you can at least recover to the saved statehave you got all the latest fsuipc, advdisp, etc? you didn't say if you running any weather program, or other add-ons that might have flaked fs out.start eliminating possibilities, by taking out something that has changed recently.jd

Sometimes s*** just happens. Especially with MSFS and a heap of add-ons. I had FS2002 vanish on me a few days ago in the middle of a 4-hour flight...no warning, no error message, just an instant transformation to a pristine desktop with no evidence that FS had ever been there. It's the first time in a long time I've had a fatal crash under FS, and it hasn't happened again since. If this is a one-time thing, best to fuggetaboutit. If it starts recurring, then time to do some involved and possibly painful troubleshooting. And the previous advice about having latest versions of FSUIPC, AdvDisp etc is spot-on. Selecting the show details option when you get one of those fatal errors can enlighten you which FS module was at ground zero when it crashed, assuming you're running WinXP or Win2000 Pro.CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V

Thanks JD. I'm not on my home system right now, but I just got it in January and loaded the current fsuipc and advdisp at that time. I haven't any other add-ons so far. I like the idea of saving the STATE. I'll give that a try the next time I have a chance to fly. Regards, Tom :-)
