January 10, 200521 yr With regards to the weather holding, I'm assuming that this will be determined by the weather at the arrival airport. If this is the case, will you have to wait for an improvement before being allowed to continue, or will it just be a short hold to simulate congestion caused by bad weather?Secondly, the ATC speed on departure option (250kts below 10000ft). Am I right in thinking that the option here is to turn the restriction on or off? I was hoping for a more random approach, whereby sometimes it's cancelled, sometimes it's not.Other than that, it's looking good. I just want to point out that these are minor things I'm curious about, and will in no way stop me from getting RC4 when it comes out (will it just be a CD launch again - no download?).Thanks for any info.-Phil Phil Brown
January 10, 200521 yr Commercial Member 1) yes, the hold is meant to simulate the fact that fewer planes are landing per hour, due to weather constraints. you will be cleared to land, after a random number of circuits, no more than 4. during that hold, you can choose to land at your alternate.2) there will be a menu item appear, if you choose no atc speed restriction. you have to ask for it, it isn't automatic. only heavies qualify for it3) no download. cd onlyjd JD Read my blog

January 10, 200521 yr Hi,>2) there will be a menu item appear, if you choose no atc >speed restriction. you have to ask for it, it isn't automatic. >only heavies qualify for itWhy only heavies (think of concorde :) )? And how do you handle this for approach? Is it now possible to request a high speed approach and depending on controller get that approved or declined?Really can't wait for v4 ! Hearing all the AI's planes around you just sounds to cool....janosch
January 10, 200521 yr HI,in europe that is quite common. The first thing you can approaching pilots hear is asking for a high speed approach (second is visual approach instead of standard ILS if conditions are permitting).I live near berlin and have heard this several times with my own ears when flying within berlin CTR (on EDDT or EDDB tower frequency for example). It's of course up to the controllery to allow or refuse this. My instructor (when doing my IFR ATC license) told me that some controllers are believing high speed approaches are like driving with 50 mph in town and deny all requests but most controllers allow this when traffic situation permits.best regardsjanosch
January 10, 200521 yr Don't worry, Janosch, I think jd has been working so hard sorting out various ai problems with V4 that he's forgotten what we've actually done with speed limits in Europe (and other non-US areas) in V4! I think he's getting confused with the 250kt relief that's available to "heavies" operating in the US which is on a menu item.We actually sorted out the non-US departure speed restriction for V4 several months ago and it applies to all aircraft and not just to heavies. The procedure is very straightforward and no menus are involved. For a flight outside US/Canadian airspace (the option is greyed-out within North America) simply activate the "Speed Restriction, No" check box and when you contact "Departure", you'll hear the phrase, "No ATC speed restriction". You can then accelerate to any speed you feel is appropriate regardless of your altitude/FL.And as for the comment that, "no mention of a high speed approach has ever been mentioned", well, as I said, he's been working very hard lately... ;) ;) ;) Pete
January 10, 200521 yr Hi,>And as for the comment that, "no mention of a high speed approach has ever been mentioned", well, as I said, he's been working very hard lately... ;) ;) ;)yeahh that really confused me a little because i already brought this topic up a couple of months ago and as far as i remember jd said that this maybe will be part of the europeanization in v4. :-)janosch
