Is there a log for RC messages ?

Featured Replies

Hi,I am new to Radar Contact (one to two weeks). Up to now I haven't find any information on how to keep a log of controller's messages like it is possible to have with FS9 ATC (kneeboard). So my question is it possible to have one. I sometimes loose a message which is not repeated in the Avdisp window (mainly the important go around message when I am totally concentrated on the landing manoeuvers).I also use Flight Keeper. This soft warns when there is a pressure change so that I can adjust the altimeter. This message, before installing RC, appeared for several seconds on top of the main screen where the ATIS message scrolls around the top.Now it appears VERY BRIEFLY in the Avdisp window (even with scroll checked in slow mode),it dissapears even before Flight Keeper verbaly announces the change is pressure. Is there any way to change that? (inn RC, Avdisp or FSUIPC)?I need to reread carefully the manuals for all these products but that is like reading a book as there is so much info for these products.Thank you for any help or advice.Roger P.S. There is a message from RC that hang in the ATIS scroll bar during my last flight. Why ? All other RC messages were displayed normally before and after in the Avdisp screen.:-hmmm

Roger,There is not a way in RC to keep a log. You might want to uncheck pilot auto-reply in RC (click on options menu and it is under the Other section). Once this is done you will have to acknowledge each transmission by hitting the 7 key. It's not what you are asking for but no messages will scroll by until you ack them. What options do you have checked in Advdisplay? I have multi-line checked and nothing else. All ATIS messages go the the green scrolling bar in FS. Experiment with the other AdvDisplay options. You may find a workable solution. You did not specify the message in the ATIS scroll bar that hangs so I can't even guess on that one. RC may not have been hung. Sometimes when a lot of wavs are playing the message display will become a little sluggish. Continue to watch it and if you still think there is a problem let us know.

It was an RV message but I have deleted the image screen. Not that important for the moment. It just happened once but the Adbdisplay worked well during that time. The multiline is now checked. Next time I start FS9 I will use the CTRL + Shift + / to make RC repeat the msg.As the Display text is checked, the auto-reply is automatically unchecked. But still some msg are replied automatically. The least important ones but it can be a nuisance. My learning curve is still going up so I expect to solve some problems or find a way around them.Thee biggest nuisance at this moment are the Flight Keeper msg dissapearing as soon as they appear. I already played with slow and fast scrolling but it does not seems to matter. I need more test to find out what it really does.Thank you for your quick response.Roger

That Display Text option is there for hearing impaired pilots. You should not need to use that option unless you are hearing impaired. Display text being checked may be causing part of your problem. Some members of our beta team are using Flight Keeper. I've asked them to read this thread and see if they have any suggestions to help you solve your problem. Unfortunately I do not have Flight Keeper so can not comment on your problem.

Roger,Regarding your problem with FSFK and information only being displayed for a brief time in the AdvDisp window. I also run FSFK but on a networked PC and maybe it's because of this I don't see messages from FSFK being displayed. I use ShowText on my non-flying PC in place of AdvDisp which might explain the reason.Anyway, as to your problem of not knowing when pressure changes occur could be helped by a gauge written by a friend of mine several years ago and modified to work in FS2002/04 by Pete Dowson. It's called fs2002pressuregauge.zip and you can find it in the AvSim library. It's a small gauge displayed on your panel and a red light illuminates whenever there is a pressure difference between the altimeter and the weather currently loaded in FS. It makes it very easy to spot when there is a pressure change.I hope that helps.

Ray,Thank you for the gauge tip. I will try it.I work with two screens, the main desk PC and a laptop with MaxiVista. ShowText: do you mean Show ATC text in the ATC options ?Roger :)

Rick,Not using the Display Text option then I loose 50 % of the messages. I hear (still) well but some messages are bearely understandable. It is not the quality of the sound (WAV) but the simulation is soo realistic. I definitively need to check the repeat option. (I hope they will not strip me of my license for asking so much repeat ;) )I will keep you informed.Roger

Roger,You will find the ShowText program in the Advdisplay zip file you downloaded from Pete Dowson's site.

I don't think this pgm will help me. It says: " This little program in combination with the program AdvDisp of Peter Dowson and will show the text displayed on AdvDisplay on AN OTHER PC CONNECTED VIA A NETWORK FSUIPC/wIDEfs"My second PC is connected with MaxiVista which simulates a second screen for any application.Roger:-(

Roger,It will not hurt anything to try it. Unzip the showtext files into your Radar Contact folder or its own directory if you wish.Run Flight Simulator and click on the Modules menu item. Click on Adv Display which will remove the check mark and turn off Adv Display. Now run showText. If you don't like it or it does not work just return to the Modules menu item and click on Adv Display which will turn it back on.

Roger,Having given this more thought today I really think you need to switch off the option in FSFK to output pressure changes to AdvDisp (or ShowText). If you're using Radar Contact you need to keep AdvDisp exclusively to RC. Unfortunately there are an increasing number of programs that want to outout via AdvDisp but as you can see it can't accommodate all of them. The pressure gauge light certainly works for me. As an alternative you could always use the Events page of ACARS to keep you updated of this kind of change.Cheers,

Rick,It works.BUT if I turn off ADV Display then Show Text is inactive. If I check on ADV Display then I get 2 screens: Show AdvDisplay Text V1.1AND Adventure Text Display. I also get a screen: Message Window. This last window is also the same but with some garble text on it.The two other windows show exactly the same texts.Roger :-hmmm

Ray,Yes that pressure gauge is a nice thing to have. Now when I hear "pressure change" I look at the gauge and set the altimeter accordingly. Thank you for the tip.I still working on the text screens (see msg to Rick). I will probably keep the AdvDisp adventure window. But some more tests are needed.Roger:)
