April 4, 200521 yr Moderator Roger,Right-click on AdvDisp and choose "Hide Always". That leaves it still active but it won't be displayed. Instead you can read the info via ShowText on your other PC. That's what I do.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). April 5, 200521 yr Moderator Roger,I have dedicated screens for each PC. Can we assume that this problem is now resolved to your satisfaction?Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). April 6, 200521 yr Author Ray,Resolved ? Not 100 % but a great leap forward. The gauge solved one major problem. As for text, I am getting use to the voice instructions. But taking off from KLAS I could not understand the squawk value. I ask repeat 4 or 5 times. It is only after take off when the controller reminded me to adjust the squawk value that I got the full number. But after landing the critic was very nasty to me because I asked to repeat 4 or 5 times the message. I was expecting to see him coming out of the screen and take back my license (which I still don't have). :) But overall I am satisfied with the help of both of you. The combination of RC and FlightKeeper gives me a challenge. Before I flew any way I wished but now I need to understand and follow the rules. This is great. Luckily I am retired and have all the time to enjoy this hobby. My dog sometimes complains because I pay less attention to him. Luckily not my wife.Roger Roger See my specs in my profile
April 8, 200521 yr Moderator Roger,I'm pleased that you have things working for you. FSFK is an excellent program and of course I never fly without RC.Retired eh? Lucky man! I've about 5-7 years left and it can't go fast enough. And if your wife is content you're reached flight sim nivarna! :DCheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). April 9, 200521 yr Author Ray,You will be surprised to see how fast time flys by even when retired. Side effect ? Getting old and older. Finally I have almost everything as I wish. But not having a log I missed the part of a message saying to descend to 3,000 ft reaching KLAX. I finally crashed because I was to much in a hurry to descend. The good thing is that now I will pay more attention to the altitude regarding the distance to the airport by using the intersections as yard sticks. These prodoucts are great.Roger Roger See my specs in my profile
April 10, 200521 yr Moderator Roger,Practice is the key as is staying with the same familiar aircraft. You wouldn't believe how bad my hand flying has become with the PMDG737 after a couple of weeks with Concorde. Familiarity is everything in this game. And, of course, listening ;-)Happy flying! April 10, 200521 yr Regarding audio clarity I have a few suggestions:1. Use a seperate audio card, not the motherboard system. It helps somewhat with performance in general and you have frequently better quality and clarity with the right seperate card.2. I run the output of the sound card through a hi-fi receiver and into good speakers. The tone controls allow for boosting the high frequency syllabic consonants and reduce the lower frequencies that contribute to mudiness and distortion. You can also get greater volume without distortion if needed.3. I also use some medium quality (about $40 US) headsets frequently that help deliver good quality audio. Directly into the ear helps in my case.4. In DirectX properties you can adjust the sound acceleration which affects the pace of the phrases in RC. If you use basic acceleration you may get some halting but if you want smoother delivery try one notch above which is what I use.Can you tell I have hearing difficulties?:)
April 13, 200521 yr Author In fact it isn't the radio clarity that bothers me. It is more the type of voice from ground in KLAS and the way of speaking (I am not an American but originally French speaking) and the speed of talking. So sometimes I get the sqwack correctly and sometimes I need to have it repeated. The other instructions are generally O.K. or even perfectly clear (depending the type of voice).I would certainly have the same problem in a real pilot situation. But thank you for your tips.Roger Roger See my specs in my profile
April 13, 200521 yr Your DirectX acceleration setting at basic would slow the pace down but it would be halting. That should slow the squawk code delivery. It will affect all phraseology however.Discussed in another thread (or maybe here) you can also enable audio phrases from RC to display in the adv. disp. window that you can refer to if needed. It is a three line stepping display above the menu choices.
