Problem with ATC and AI aircraft not working together on the ground!

Featured Replies

I made a flight with radarcontact and my arrival airport was Las vegas Maccaran Intl (Scenery World Airports 2 from JustFlight).Radarcontacts ATC and AI-aircraft did not work together. I had a landing clearence to Rwy 25L but get a go around from the tower caused by onother plane on the ground was entering the Rwy. The problem is that the only plane I saw on the ground was standing at a holding point as it should. I did the go around and I have to do this three times before I get tired of the tower and diverted to Los Angeles instead. The other two go around I did I also could see planes at the holding point not on the Rwy. The cause of the problem does it have something to do that radarcontact have problem to read the data from the scenery or is it something else? I don' want to shutdown the AI-traffic for a landing clearence at Mccarran Intl. Someone who have a tips about this problem?

my guess is the runway information i'm using, is different than the runway information you have. therefore when a plane is holding short in the default scenery, i see him as no threat. but when he's holding short in your scenery, it looks like they are on the runway.in v4, i will read your scenery files, to build those databases, so it should work nicely in v4jd

Thanks jd!We have to wait for v4. Rc is a very great program and the tutorials and the manuals are great!Alf

Will afcad2s using the star crossing runway system (the short closed runways less than 7 degrees heading apart to fool FS9 into thinking all runways are parallel so runway privileges are recognized on non-parallels) cause a problem with generating your database? Is so, I suppose they can be removed temporarily during your database build. Also, after the database is built, is it an editable field delimited text file as currently used? Other editing tool?>in v4, i will read your scenery files, to build those>databases, so it should work nicely in v4>>jd

i have no idea what you just said. all i'm doing is getting the lon/lat of the center of the runway, and the runway heading, length and width.yes, the file is a csv file, but i wouldn't recommend messing with it

I thought that might be confusing :).These non-existent extra runways are in AFCAD2s downloadable from project pai and other sources and are added on top of the default stock layout. This is a kluge that allows AI and FS ATC to recognize when you use AFCAD to open/close non-parallel runways for take-off and landings.I was asking what files are read for your database creation.FS ATC in their menu lists all of these fake runways and as I recall ATIS might recognize them also. In 3.1 you have your own supplied database from whatever source so RC does not see these fake runways.I was just curious if in building your database from the user data as I interpret your comment if you are getting your data from the additional afcad files at install time or using other file types.

john burgess is mr afcad (better known as captain trig). maybe he can see how this will affect the database buildis there a component of these fake runways which we could sort on, and not build into the database?jd

Hi There,There are no problems using such afcads with RCv4. The database generator which Pete Dowson kindly wrote for us ignores the fake runways but reads the actual ones. I'm using several 'star' afcads during testing and no issues have arisen. All the best,John

I'll answer anyway just to be stubborn.According to the pinned thread over at the pai forum, when first started visual AI still used the fake runways. Their solution was to bring the center of those runways outside of the airport recognition perimeter for AI.Most of the fake runways appear to be less than 2000 feet long. The minimum sizeso the privilege propertiesto be recognized is I think 15 feet x ten feet. The one I currently have installed for KLGA has 1100 x 100 foot runways but placed about 30 min and 4 min of long and lat away from the airport center.I think length might be the simplest property to go for exclusion but Pete has probably found other sources resistant to these.I also hope there is a database rebuild function/utility to accommodate changes due to added AFCADS which might add additional runways and navaids, especially since FS9 afcad2's have some items with visual properties like runways.

RCv3 does have problems with the AI traffic. Although not necessarily the fault of RCv3, it is annoying, to say the least.RCv3 generates "phantom" air traffic: Not only in the air to be avoided, but also on the ground at the Hold Short lines and then those that wander onto the active runways. I have been given the "cleared to land" command many times by RCv3 and the MS ATC version and then waived off at the last moment by non-existent aircraft "on" the active runway when no aircraft can be seen. Here's how you can avoid some of these problems:Decrease the percentage of traffic you use to realistic values, say 50%.Before contacting Approach, use your Jepp. maps/charts to select a suitable alternate runway for your aircraft. When contacting Approach, be ready for the alternate runway request, vectors and proper altitudes - or request an IAP approach and fly it yourself.Stay away from the International airports like the Plague and use the many fine Regional Airports in the game.At the busy international airports, the LAST runway you should ever select is the main active one. Forget it!!!Good Luck

luckily a lot of that will improve with v4no "phantom" air traffic. if you get a traffic call, that plane will be out there. and i will call the aircraft type, and the carrier.the runway incrusions will almost come to an end as well. ground ai will almost always be frozen when you're on final. there may be a couple that sneak on the runway to takeoff.most of our beta testers are running traffic at 100% - without too much ill affect.i do a pretty good job of speeding up slower planes in front of you on final, and slowing down the faster ones behind you on final. but it's a good idea to request the parallel runway being used for takeoffs for the runway to choose for landings.those ai taxiing off the active can go pretty darn slow. and that will definately cause a go around.i'll be interested in your impressions and observations post v4 release. and no, i don't have a date in mind :-)jd

To clarify, the latest build of 3.1:Phantom RC created traffic is an option that can be disabled.RC if checked in the options will react to FS AI in that their position will be called out to you within a certain range of altitude difference and distance. (Interact with AI checked on the options page.)

I've had it with these Evil Phantom Aircraft!Gonna go and get my Dad's old Marine Corp. Corsair F4U from WW2 and shoot down any more of these Phantom AI planes buzzing me or wandering onto the Active at the last moment. After 2 Go-Arounds at the local Reg. airport, another nitwit pilot wandered onto "my" runway. Boy, is he going to get it! Take that!Captain Dad
