December 19, 200520 yr Moderator Hi roger,Okay, you've convinced me. I'll fly there tonight whilst I'm testing some new things we're doing :-) Nice weather there today I hope.Thinking about how this would be handled in the real-world I suppose the pilot would have his charts with him and would be aware (possibly via NOTAMS) of the frequency duplication.I don't know how many instances of this we have in FS9 nor do I know if a solution is possible. let's suck it and see for now. At least you (and others) know the problem at KBOS which may be repeated elsewhere.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). December 19, 200520 yr Moderator Hi Roger,As promised here's my FS Flight Keeper chart showing my route into KBOS 04R. As I levelled off at 11,000 APP gaves me a heading of 305, D&M 9,000ft. Shortly after I was cleared down to 3,000ft. Next heading change was to 005 and down to 2,000ft to intercept the ILS 04R.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135986.jpgThe only problem was that I was outside the range of the localiser so I turned onto heading 035 until the ILS came alive after which I adjusted my heading. The only issue is that you have to be aware that you're outside the range of the ILS and maybe change heading towards the runway heading until it comes alive. That's the problem with a lot of straight-in approaches which this is similar to. I get the same situation at Milan Malpensa approaching from the south.Hope that helps, Ray (Cheshire, England). December 19, 200520 yr RayThanks and I hope you enjoyed your flight. Your track certainly duplicates mine except the last part where you played pilot and I just hit buttons. Will be well aware of this type situation in future and as someone said earlier, this is why they put pilots in airplanes.RegardsRoger
December 19, 200520 yr Moderator Hi Roger,Glad that helped. I'm sure you'll soon get the hang of it. I've lost count of the number of flights with RC4 :-)The landing was interesting because despite setting winds from 035 aircraft were landing on 15. One landed just ahead of me. Wish I'd had the video running ;-)Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). December 19, 200520 yr Moderator Hi Roger,Just one last point about your plan into Boston. Did you know that 04R would be the landing runway when you prepared your plan? I ask because it seems a little odd to select waypoints that would take you past the extended runway centre line for 04R. You would then have to turn back as was demonstrated in your flight and mine.If you always intend to fly headings supplied by Approach I suggest you make your final waypoint as close to 40 miles from the airport as you can. In this case PVD as the final waypoint would have been better. As you passed PVD you would then turn towards the airport and your heading changes would have been quite different and probably easier.Hope that helps, Ray (Cheshire, England). December 20, 200520 yr Hi RayHad no idea what the final rwy would be. The plan was made in FSNAV and just had KBOS as the last waypoint.RegardsRoger
December 21, 200520 yr hi john, well did two flights yesterday, from EGKK to LEMD and back. on the first flight, a vectored approach to runway 33 at LEMD, i was taken 17 miles downwind and then got turned in to intercept the localizer. it worked well!also on the flight back, using a IAP approach, no problems there eiter, well because i was flying an instrument approach of course. it was busy at EGKK, it was nice to see the traffic being kept out of my way!i guess my flight at KHOU was a fluke.

December 21, 200520 yr Moderator That makes sense. Thanks Michael. Ray (Cheshire, England).
